Carlos Martinez Obituary

I played basketball with Carlos in the evenings in the summer at Alcott Elementary School, where we were both regulars in the pickup games. It is an honor to have played with such an outstanding player and person.

Annemae, Uncle Moon and I think of you and Carlos everyday. We send our prayers and a lot of hugs to you. We are so lucky to have had wonderful times with the both of you. We will cherish them.

To the Martinez family, our thoughts and prayers are with you. Carlos was a great friend and teammate at St. Louis University. And we had the extra connection of being from Chicagoland...I went to St. Francis HS in Wheaton. His teams at St.Pat's were always some of the best in the area. To me, his greatest attribute as a teammate was that he was the ultimate unselfish player...a wonderful ballhandler and passer who always tried to make his teammates look good. I'm thankful that Kathie and I had the opportunity to see him again a few years ago when he visited St. Louis. It was great to see that Mike Lockette was able to post a picture of Carlos from back in the day...loved that hair!! I trust we'll see you again on the other side, Carlos. Godspeed, my friend.

It was a pleasure meeting you today at the gathering at St. Pats. I had the distinct privilege of being a classmate of Carlos at St. Pats ('68). One great thing about Carlos is that all who had the opportunity to know him came away with wonderful memories.

DEAR ANNAMAE:
OUR DEEPEST CONDOLENCES TO ALL THE FAMILY. I WAS SHOCKED TO HEAR OF HIS PASSIN. HE WILL ALWAYS BE IN OUR PRAYERS, ALTHOUGH IT'S BEEN MANY YEARS SINCE I'VE SEEN HIM, I KNOW HE'S ALWAYS BEEN A GREAT PERSON AND I'LL NEVER FORGET OUR CHILDHOOD YEARS.

From the first time I met Carlos in 5th Grade at Alcott I knew he was someone special and though we never saw each other as much as we both would have liked in subsequent years we still remained close. I will miss his quiet yet contagious laugh, the times we golfed and the special time Eric and I had attempting to fish at Third Lake. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and Carlos's family. I'll miss you Nez.

AnnaMae,we are very sorry for you and your family. My prayers go out to Carlos, he was a great person to know and I'm glad I got to know him. Carlos and I shared some time together at the last golf trip to Florida.

My condolences to the family of Carlos Martinez. Althought i did not know Carlos personally i did recall seeing him play basketball in my youth on t.v. at St. Louis university and in Puerto Rico. I think we share a passion for the game of basketball and as i continue my coaching carreer at Triton college my only regret is not having met him. God Bless!

To the family of Carlos Martinez, please accept my deepest sympathy. He was my college teammate at SLU. As great as a basketball player Carlos was, he was even a greater person. I'm sure he was a shining light to all who knew him. Please know he remains in my thoughts and prayers.

I was fortunate to have Carlos in his U.S. History class at St. Patrick High School when he was a junior. His persona was unique in that he had the ability to learn from the experience of others. My sympathy goes out to your family. Carlos will be missed.

We were shocked and saddened by the news of Carlos passing. We will always remember Carlos as the kind, gentle, soft spoken, sincere man who absolutely adored his wife, Annamae. My husband and son loved the couple of golf engagements they had with Carlos and talk about how well he played and the fun they had. Annamae you are in our thoughts and prayers. He was a most pleasant individual to speak with; very professional, yet most personable. Often times he would inquire of my family. Carlos was very proud of his family.
