Martinez, Carlos age 59, suddenly, he is survived by his adoring wife and best friend, Annamae (nee Calkins), beloved father of Lara Martinez, dearest Papa to Gabriel, age 7 and Julian age 4, devoted son of the late Lydia and the late Angel Martinez of Puerto Rico, caring brother of Hilda, Ana, Alfredo (Evelyn), Gladys (Felix Acevedo), and Liza (Miguel Perez), wonderful son-in-law to the late AnnaMae (nee Riley) and William Calkins, (Ret. CFD), loving brother-in-law of Patrick (Margaret), William (John J. Mastandrea), Michael (Sally), Julie, Robert (Mary), John (Lynda), Molly (Jim) Thompson and Seamus (Cheri), favorite uncle to many nieces and nephews. Carlos is a 1968 graduate of St. Patrick High School and a 1972 graduate of St. Louis University. Carlos received a Master's Degree in Criminal Justice from Lewis University. He is a member of both schools' hall of fame for his exceptional performance in basketball; he played professionally for seven years in Puerto Rico for the Rio Piedras Club and also played in the Pan American Games representing Puerto Rico. Carlos served as an investigator for the Illinois Department of Professional Regulation since 1988. He will be deeply missed by the countless friends and loved ones whose lives he touched from Chicago to Puerto Rico. Mass of celebration will be held at 11 a.m., at St. Ferdinand Church, 5900 W. Barry, Chicago, IL, on Saturday, October 25, 2008. In lieu of flowers, Carlos would have been honored for donations in his memory to St. Patrick High School Athletic Fund, attn: Brian Glorioso, 5900 W.
