Rosemary Matt Obituary

NEW HARTFORD - Rosemary (Inserra) Matt passed away after a courageous battle with leukemia. She passed into the hands of the Lord on Friday, December 13, 2024, with her husband and children by her side. Rosemary was born in Utica on May 1, 1956, to the late R. Robert Inserra and Vincenza (Rescino) Inserra. Rosemary graduated from Utica Catholic Academy in 1974 and then went on to earn a BS in Mathematics from the University of Buffalo in 1978. After college, Rosemary went on to teach high school math in the Oriskany Central School District. She later left the teaching profession to become a Real Estate broker with Faith Properties. Next, she went on to work for New York State as the Director of Accountability for Adult Education where she was responsible for the data of 270 programs across the state. It is here where she remained for the rest of her career. Rosemary was hardworking and dedicated to her work. She was revered by her colleagues throughout the state for her excellent work ethic and precision in her daily work. On June 9, 1979, she married James E. Matt, the younger brother of her sister, Lucille's, husband. They met at Lucille's wedding and were married three years later. Rosemary and Jim shared a very strong, loving bond and were completely committed to each other. They were married 45 years. Rosemary leaves behind her beloved husband, James (Jim); two children and their families: their eldest child, Brian and his partner Bryan Fairbrother, and their daughter Alycia (Matt) Magee and her husband Sean and their young children James S. Magee and Izabelle R. Magee. Rosemary also leaves behind her sister Lucille (Inserra) Matt, a brother-in-law John A. Matt Jr. and his wife Maureen, and a sister-in-law Dolores Matt. Also surviving are Rosemary's nieces and nephews, Craig A. Matt and his wife Ashleigh (Dennis) Matt and their young daughter Aurora, John A. Matt III and his wife Kimbery, Michael J. Matt and his partner Paul Batista, Patricia (Matt) Otis and her husband Jeff, Gary J. Matt Jr. and his wife Katie, and Sean Matt. Rosemary is also survived by twelve other great nieces and nephews, an aunt, Connie Inserra, and cousins, Francis and Patricia Inserra, Elaine Paynter, and Carol Cannerelli. Rosemary was predeceased by two brothers-in-law, Gary J. Matt Sr. and Robert W. Matt, and mother-in-law Virginia (Haley) Matt. Rosemary was generous and very giving of herself. Her family was the center of her life. There was nothing she loved more than her two grandchildren. They were the light of her life. Rosemary was an excellent cook and enjoyed watching cooking shows. Weekly, she would host her son and daughter's families for Sunday dinner. Rest in peace, Rosemary. Know that your love, generosity and spirit of life will live on in our memories forever. Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 19, 2024 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc. 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. For those unable to attend, you may be present virtually at https://us02web.zoom.us/j/83836201724. I had the honor of knowing Rosemary when I became the data manager for Jefferson-Lewis BOCES. A position I held for over 20+years. She was my mentor when I began collecting data and I had the honor of seeing and interacting her many times over the years at various workshops, my last interaction with her was in March 2024. She was a force to be reckoned with when it came to making sure our numbers and the state numbers were the best they could be. She will be sadly missed by many. My thoughts and prayers go out to Jim and her family.

My heart breaks for Jim, Alycia, Brian and their families as well as for Lucille and her family. We all grew up together and spent all of our holidays together as children, learning to ski, putting on made-up holiday plays for our parents, swimming at their camp on Sylvan Beach on Sundays in the summer. Being a bridesmaid in Jim and Rosemary's wedding was a highlight of our relationship. As adults we shared many laughs about our childhoods together. I am so sorry I can't be with the family at this time. I will miss you Rosemary!

I worked with this very kind and caring lady at BOCES in Utica. She introduced me to Utica greens for which I am most grateful. I am very sad to hear of her passing and my sincere sympathy goes out to her family.

I worked with Rosemary at Faith Properties and was impressed with her dedication and effort. I now live in NC so won't be able to make the calling hours. Best wishes for her family.
