Hisayo Czapla Obituary

Hisayo Czapla of Wethersfield, passed away peacefully at home on January 26, 2026. She was born in Hagi, Japan on November 11, 1927 (as a member of the Hayashi family).

Hisayo was a kind and gentle soul who radiated goodness to everyone she met. Her strong faith and remarkable resilience carried her through many difficult moments throughout her life. She made lifelong friends wherever she went and never had an unkind word to say about anyone.

She possessed a quiet sense of adventure that carried her from her childhood home in Japan to the United States after meeting her husband in Japan post WW2, working as an English translator. Though soft-spoken and reserved, she loved exploring new places and trying new experiences.

Known for her style and finesse, Hisayo was always impeccably dressed-an expression of the pride she took in her work. These qualities served her well in her distinguished career as a master seamstress with Lord & Taylor and Nordstrom.

She is survived by her beloved son Phil, whom she dearly loved; her sister in Japan; her cherished Japanese friends; many former colleagues and friends from her working career; friends from church; and her devoted caregiver, Agnes. She was predeceased by her husband, Frederick.

Friends and relatives are invited to call on the Czapla family on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, from 10:30 am to 11:30 am at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Road, Wethersfield. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Hisayo's life will follow at 12:00 Noon in Corpus Christi Church of Christ the King Parish, 601 Silas Deane Highway, Wethersfield. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, 662 Burritt St, New Britain.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Hisayo's memory to Christ the King Parish in Wethersfield, or the American Stroke Association.
