DeVere Pontenberg Obituary
June 23, 1934 - June 20, 2025
DeVere "Bud" Pontenberg, 90, of Waterloo, passed away Friday, June 20, 2025 at home surrounded by his family.
Bud was born June 23, 1934 in Alta Vista, IA, the son of DeVere and Agnes (Polansky) Pontenberg. He married Norma Larsen on February 24, 1962 in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Waterloo. She preceded him in death on June 11, 2013.
He worked as a mechanic at John Deere and also farmed for many years until retiring. He previously worked as a bridge builder and worked for Rath Packing, Viking Pump, and Oliver. Bud was a veteran and served in the US Navy.
He is survived by: his children, Christine Pontenberg, Cynthia Stroud, and Charles (Fátima) Pontenberg; seven grandchildren, Bruno, Monique (Scott), Natasha (Daniel), Cassandra (Benjamin), Madison, Jared, and Sophia; four great grandchildren; and a sister, Dorothy DiGregorio.
He is preceded in death by: his parents; his wife; a granddaughter, Elizabeth Grace; and his two brothers and three sisters.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, June 26 at 10:30 a.m., at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with burial at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, both in Waterloo. Public visitation will be from 4 – 6 p.m. on Wednesday, June 25, at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway. Visitation also be for one hour prior to the Mass on Thursday at the church.

We are sorry to hear of buds passing. We always ran into him at breakfast at Jassies. We also used to go to the garage sales they had. What a nice guy he was. He always had a smile on his face. Rest in peace Bud. You will be greatly missed. Joel and Candace Tix

So very sorry to hear about Bud. He and Norma were such good friends of my family. So many good memories of them. I will miss bumping into Bud at lots of different places. Always so friendly. Prayers to all of you. I know he thought the world of kids and grand kids.
