Sylvia White Obituary

Ms. Sylvia White, a native of Mobile, AL was born September 16, 1951. She departed this life on Sunday, May 26, 2024.  She is the daughter of the late Peter and Laura Burden.  She was preceded in death by her brother, Phillip Burden, and sister, Lorraine LeDoux.  

Ms. White was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, where she served on the Lutheran Women Missionary League (LWML), Evangelism, and Stewardship Ministry.  She began her elementary education at Mt. Calvary Lutheran School where she learned of and confessed Christ at an early age.  She then attended Lillie B. Williamson High School graduating with the Class of 1969, where she was a cheerleader, served as a Student Government Representative, a member of the Charmettes, Marshals, and the Justrahon Society.   She was a proud alumna and Lion for Life!  

 She began working after high school at Delchamps as a cashier and later serving as head cashier/bookkeeper with 20 years of dedicated service.  She furthered her career with Recycle Fibers of Alabama for 21 years as an Accounts Payable Clerk.  This place was more than a job but a place where friendships were established and coworkers felt like family.  After her full-time career ended she worked part-time at Whole Foods and enjoyed working with young students and diverse individuals, advising them as only "Ms. Sylvia" could.   

She enjoyed the little things; fresh flowers, shopping, finding a deal, a good game of spades, trying a new recipe and family gatherings especially at Christmas.  She tuned into "The Young and The Restless" and "Paternity Court" everyday.  She had a zeal for life, loved to laugh and spoil those that affectionately knew her as "Ganny".

Sylvia White leaves to cherish her memories, two daughters, Sylvia (Charles) Walker, Charmayne Watson, one son, Frank (Lawanda) Watson Jr and seven grandchildren, Jordan Hall, Diamond Watson, Tyra Pugh, Charleston Walker, Carlie Walker, Ti'Yanna Watson and Cameryn Watson, one great-grandchild, Bella Pugh, one brother, Peter Burden III, one sister in law, Rachel Burden, one niece, Rachel Holder, and two nephews, Derrick Lyons and Peter Taliaferro.  She also leaves a host of cousins, lifelong friends, and neighbors and devoted church members who have known and loved her for many, many years.  

The visitation will be held on Friday, May 31st from 9 a.m. until the noon funeral hour at B.E. Brown & Co. Mortuary, 5817 Grelot Road, Mobile, Alabama 36609.
