Willie Wilson Obituary

Wilson, Willie Walter

Aug 22, 1950 - Nov 22, 2024

Willie was the only child born to the union of Mary Louise and Walter B. Wilson. He was raised in Waco, TX, attending Lover's Leap Baptist Church. He graduated from Waco High School Class of 1968 excelling in football and baseball.

After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1969 serving at Kadena Air Base in Okinawa, Japan, and Dover Air Force Base in Dover, DE, as an Aircraft Environmental Systems Repair Tech. He was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant. He also served in the United States Navy at NSA Mid-South in Millington, TN, and Dam Neck Naval Base in Virginia Beach, VA. After serving in the Navy, he transitioned to the civilian sector as a Data Systems Analyst with Grumman Systems Support. He also worked various other jobs until his health declined in June 2024.

In his leisure, he enjoyed the beauty of music and sports. He was a devoted Dallas Cowboys fan. One of his most favorite gospel songs was "I Won't Complain." In his younger years, he was a Disc Jockey known as "DJ Wine."

He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Louise Anderson Wilson, father, Walter Bradshaw Wilson, and eldest sister, Alice Ann Miles. He is survived by his wife, Brigit Haynes Wilson; children, Deirdre Wilson, Maurice Wilson, Candice Reynolds (Ralph), and Willie Wilson II. Along with his stepchildren, Erica Haynes, Tasha Haynes, Brent Haynes, and Barbara Haynes. He is also survived by his sister, Mildred Howard. He leaves behind many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Willie (Daddy/Pops) will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him. May your memory be a blessing. Special thanks to the Dallas VA Medical Center Hospice Unit staff for providing care during this difficult time.

The family will honor the life of our beloved privately, without holding a public service or gathering. Interment will be private at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, Tx.

I played baseball with Willie at Waco High School. He may have been the first black player to play at WHS. When we played, Willie and I were the only two on the team in 1968 and 1969. I continued to play in 1970 after Will left in 1969. He was a good left hand pitcher.
