Russell "Rusty" Rutherford

March 21, 1951 - May 19, 2025

Kennewick, Washington - In Loving Memory of Russell "Rusty" Rutherford.

Russell "Rusty" Rutherford, 74, of Kennewick, Washington, passed away peacefully on May 19, 2025, surrounded by his family.

Born on March 21, 1951, in Richland, Washington, to the late Doc Rutherford and Rainie Halsey, Rusty was a devoted family man and outstanding friend, who was known for his warm smile, sense of humor, and loyalty. He dedicated over 50 years as a crane operator and equipment manager at Lampson International, LLC., contributing to numerous projects around the world.

Rusty married his soul mate and sweetheart, Janice Pearson, in 1973 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Together, they raised three children, Nicole, Bret, and Brandon. A faithful husband and father, Rusty instilled in his family the values of hard work, generosity, and taking care of one another. He and Janice were married for over 51 years. Their love story remains a shining example to family and friends of the beauty of a true and enduring marriage.

Outside of his professional life, Rusty enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and boating with his family. Throughout his life he enjoyed sports, especially baseball and basketball. Rusty was a high school athlete and graduated from Kennewick High in 1969. He played baseball for Spokane Falls Community College after high school and played competitive men's softball after college. As a dad, he coached his sons in Kennewick American youth baseball and his daughter in summer league basketball. In later years, Rusty enjoyed taking Janice on various trips, attending events at local wineries, and playing golf. He regularly took solace in reading the Bible, and daily devotions and prayer.

Rusty is survived by his beloved wife, Janice; his daughter, Nicole (Mark) Weynands of Kennewick; his sons, Bret (Crystal) Rutherford and Brandon (Kelley) Rutherford of Kennewick; his cherished grandchildren, Blake, Paisley, Brynn, Emmerson, and William; and his sister, Karen Rutherford. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Jodie.

A celebration of life for Rusty will be held on Friday, July 11, 2025, from 3:00-9:00 p.m. at Zintel Creek Golf Club, 314 N Underwood St, Kennewick, WA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Camp Patriot (camppatriot.org) in Rusty's memory.

Rusty's legacy of love, dedication, faith, and family will continue to inspire all who knew him. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered.

Dear Janice & family,
What I have to say is not unique- as many who know & love Rusty agree. He was a person of great charisma, warmth, cheerfulness, positivity & kindness. The type of person who helped you feel better for being near him!
God blessed you with a fine husband, father, grandfather.
He´s in the glory realm with his Creator. You will miss him greatly and I am sad for you. The only bright part is knowing you will see him in the future!
