Stephanie Verbosky Obituary

Stephanie "Steffie" Verbosky

Stephanie "Steffie" Verbosky, age 94, passed away peacefully on July 6, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was born to Mary Connell Barnosak and Anthony "Tony" Hranec on November 7, 1930, in Rossford, Ohio.

Steffie attended Walnut Street Elementary School and graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1948. That June, she was crowned Queen of Rossford's first Glass Festival. After graduation, she worked more than seven years at the old Rossford Ordinance Depot. Steffie and Bill were involved in a family run business, Verbosky's Market, on Jennings Road, in Rossford.

In 1954, Steffie married the love of her life, William E. Verbosky, at Sts. Cyril and Methodius Church. Her husband, and her friends, were avid dancers, lovers of polka music and dance, and leaders of a vibrant social community of Hungarian, Slovak, Czech, and Polish families in Rossford. While her children attended Sts. Cyril and Methodius school, she served as the secretary of the parent-teacher guild, as well as a school board member when Sts. Cyril and Methodius school merged with St. Mary Magdaline to form Alter Elementary. She also served on the committee when the two Rossford parishes merged to become All Saints Catholic Church. Her death is a poignant reminder of her family's membership in the parish, and civic participation in the Rossford community, for more than one hundred years.

Her entire life was devoted to her family. She especially treasured time spent with her children and grandchildren, who affectionately called her "Babka," Slovak for grandma. Those times were the greatest joys in her life, and a source of the most precious memories for her family. She spent countless Sundays preparing dinner for the entire family to share after Mass. Hours spent together eating her chicken paprikas - the most favorite Sunday meal of the family - will be remembered for generations.

She is survived by her four children, Bill, Mary Kay (Mike) Scott, Sue (Gary) Yoder, Jim (Karen) Verbosky; her beloved grandchildren, Michael and Maria Scott, Kristina, Ben and Patrick (Alison) Yoder, and Nikolas and Abby Verbosky. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Diane Connell; and many nieces and nephews from the Bauer, Connell and Verbosky families. She was preceded in death by her husband, William "Babe;" mother, Mary Connell; brother, James Connell; and daughter-in-law, Cathy Verbosky.

The family extends a heartfelt gratitude to her caregiver, Gerri Pittman, and the wonderful staff and caregivers at Kingston Residence of Perrysburg and Hospice of Northwest Ohio.

Visitation will take place at Sujkowski-Walker Funeral Home, 830 Lime City Road, Rossford, Ohio, on Thursday, July 10th, from 2:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. A Rosary vigil will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Friday, July 11th, at All Saints Catholic Church, at 10:00 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. The Rite of Committal will take place immediately following Mass, at Fort Meigs Cemetery.
