I knew "the Judge" for years and considered him to be a friend. He was a solid, honest, person, and a lot of fun to be around.

Mary and I first knew your Dad during his DC visits. It is hard to imagine a more delightful person, for when Mickey came it meant stories! And good ones they were! It seems there is a fad going around callin accomplished persons,"trifectas", a hockey term, as I am sure you know, for persons scoring three gals in a single match. Except now it means who does three related things well. A great public servant a great volunteer for community service and a great troller of stories adds up to a great "trifecta" man. Our heartfelt condolences.

I worked for Judge Gorman for over 10 years. He was a very kind man and had an excellent sense of humor. His demeanor on the bench was unlike any other judge I know. He will be missed.

Mickey was a friend of my sister´s first, while Susan was a childhood friend. My first husband and I then become friends with them both. I gave them a rescued kitten; they repaid me with one of her kittens. We often took them sailing and Mickey had full use of our boat. We watched "Masterpiece Theatre" every Sunday night over dinner. I´m told our New Year´s Eve parties were legendary.
When I was cited to Municipal Court for a minor traffic accident the case was assigned, unbeknownst to me, to Mickey. When he heard my name and looked up, he launched into an introduction of me to the courtroom as one of his "oldest and dearest friends". I kept trying to "shush" him but there was no shushing Mickey. The police officer who cited me later chided me for not mentioning I was friends with the judge.
When I remarried, Mickey pronounced us husband and wife. He then clapped my husband on the back and told him that since he was married by a magistrate, two ministers, and a judge, he was pretty much "stuck".
We last saw Mickey over dinner with friends in Traverse City. We tried to see him in Toledo the last time we were there but he was hospitalized with back issues.
Vaya con Dios, Mickey. Knowing you was such a joy.

Mick was one of the first persons I met, when I moved to Toledo in 1963. We worked in Common Pleas Court for Judges Kiroff & Walinski, and went to night law school at UT. We became good friends. In the 58 years of that friendship, we shared a LOT of good times, laughs - - - and beers!!!

Oh that smile.
It never stopped at being a mild smile,
His face opened up --
The cheeks red with happy warmth . . .
The eyes crinkling. His whole face laughing.
There was something like `relaxed bustling´ about Mickey.
If he wasn´t walking, or getting down, or getting up,
Nevertheless there was the promise of doing so. It would happen.
Everything about Mickey promised
Eyes crinkling and focusing on the person
He was talking to. Ah, more likely "people" not just one person.
Self, shared with multitudes.
He seemed to absorb everything.
What a judge he must have been!
And believe me, we judged him as perfect.
