Donald Oravic Obituary

WILKES-BARRE – Donald P. Oravic, of Wilkes-Barre, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2023, at Allied Hospice-Meade Street, Wilkes-Barre.

Born Dec. 10, 1942, in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of the late Joseph and Angeline Piagossi Oravic.

Don was a 1961 graduate of GAR Memorial High School, Wilkes-Barre, and was a Navy Veteran of the Vietnam War.

He was employed for more than 25 years as a cook at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility.

Don was a member of St. Nicholas Church, Wilkes-Barre; the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades; Local Contractors Union; and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, Wilkes-Barre.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara in 2009; and daughter, Kathleen Marie Oravic in 1988.

Surviving is his daughters, Judith Mary Pierce of South Carolina, and Nichole Gordon of Wilkes-Barre; son, Donald Paul Orvic Jr. of Moosic; granddaughter, Kathleen Denise Cavanaugh; brother, Ronald Oravic and his wife, Genevieve of Linglestown, PA; and sister, Kathleen Dargoy of Kingston.

Family and friends may attend visitation on Friday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Jendrzejewski Funeral Home, 21 N. Meade St., Wilkes-Barre, PA 18702.

Private interment in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township, will be held at the convenience of the family. All are invited to Don's Celebration of Life on Saturday at 4 p.m. at Steagles Bar, 107 Hillside Street, Wilkes-Barre.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Patient Prescription Fund at the Henry Cancer Center of Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center.
