Doyle Allen, Sr

Camden, South Carolina - Doyle Eugene Allen, Sr. 89, passed away peacefully at Colonial at Old Camden, on June 2, 2022. Doyle was born in Kings Mountain, N.C. on October 11, 1932. He was the son of the late Neal Cornelius Allen and Ferg D. Allen "Ferrie" and wife of Nell Geneva LaMay Allen for 70 wonderful years. Doyle was a member of First Baptist Church for 53 years. Doyle served four years in the Air Force as a S/Sgt. Surgical Technician at Orlando Air Force Base in Orlando, Florida, during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged in 1952. He came back home to Great Falls, S.C. where he grew up and worked with J.P. Steven Mills as Recreation Director. He moved to Camden in 1969 as Camden/Kershaw Recreational Director. He retired after 29 years and went to work with Kershaw County School District as a Computer Technician. He loved his computers. He traveled all over the United States and Canada promoting for computers in Parks and Recreation.
Doyle was President of S.C. Recreation and Parks Society, Inc. 1975-1976. On the Board of Regents School of Sports Management, N.C. State University Chairman, Board of Regents of the Computer Use District, Oglesby Wheeling, West Virginia March 1-5, 1992. Doyles other interest was in magic, model airplanes, and astronomy.
Doyle Allen Sr. is survived by his wife, Nell Geneva LaMay Allen; son, Doyle Allen Jr., "Sonny" of Camden; sister, Shirley Ruth Allen Collins of Durham, N.C.; aunt, Maude Allen Boyte of Camden, S.C.; niece, Debi Gemmer of Camden, S.C.; nephew, Mitch Wilson (Carol) of Burleston, TX. Extended family, Dr. Lee Thomas (Lucy) of Lancaster, S.C. In addition to his wife and son, Doyle was predeceased in death by his sister-in-law, Eva Sue Wilson, May 17, 2022.
A visitation will take place Sunday, May 5, 2022, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church Fellowship Center in Camden, S.C. A Funeral Service to celebrate the life of Doyle Eugene Allen will be held Monday, May 6, 2022, at 11 am, at First Baptist Church in Camden, S.C. A burial is to follow the service at Green Lawn Cemetery in Great Falls, S.C.
