Coleman Moffett Obituary

Coleman Lynes Moffett, Sr., 82, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, the 10th of November 2023 at his home surrounded by his loving and adoring family. Born on the 11th day of June in 1941 in Anderson County, he was the son of the late Arthur Lee and Bessie Faye Taylor Moffett. In 1960, he married his high school sweetheart, Gertrude Bustle. Together, they enjoyed over sixty-three years. A retired employee of UPS of over twenty-nine years, he was a member of the Local 89 of the Teamsters Union in Louisville. He was also a former employee of the old Hardesty Shell Service Station in Shelbyville and at Hillerich and Bradsby in Louisville. His greatest sporting activities were hunting and fishing. He held the Guist Creek hybrid striper record of fourteen pounds, ten ounces, holding this record for a number of years, only until his great-grandson broke his record catching a seventeen pounder. His family takes comfort in the fact that a ten-point buck was taken with "Papa's" deer rifle on the opening day of deer season the morning after he went to heaven. "Thank you for the sign, Dad." In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Betty Jane Stratton.

His survivors include his wife, Gertrude Moffett of Shelbyville; his son, Coleman Lynes Moffett, Jr., and his wife, Robin, of Bagdad; his daughter, Tobie Lee Kemble and her husband, Chuck, of Shelbyville; his granddaughters, Jesse Moffett, Abigail Neal and her husband, Matthew, and Taylor Spinks and her husband, Clinton; his great-grandchildren, Peyton, Preslee, Parker, Piper, Henry, and one great-grandson due this February, Levi; his loving sisters, Ora Lee Warford of Louisville, Linda Faye Lacefield and Wilma Jean Tinsley and her husband, Bob, all of Shelbyville; his brother, Bobby Gale Moffett and his wife, Doris, of Montgomery, Alabama; and a host of nephews and nieces, all of whom were precious to him.

A celebration of life for family and friends will be conducted at 1:00 P.M., on Wednesday, the 15th day of November, 2023, at the Hall-Taylor Funeral Home of Shelbyville, with the Reverend Ivan Spencer officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Chuck Kemble, Terry Ethington, Matt Neal, and Clinton Spinks. Active pallbearers will be David Dale Stratton, Kenny Harrington, Mike Harrington, Anthony Tinsley, Allen Lacefield, Ryan Lacefield, Peyton Cole Kincaid, and Kevin Harrod. Interment will be in the Grove Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville. Visitation will from 10:30 A.M., until 12:45 P.M., Wednesday, the 15th day of November, 2023, at the Hall-Taylor Funeral Home of Shelbyville. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Amerian Cancer Society, Post Office Box 2167, Lexington, Kentucky 40588, or to Baptist Health Louisville, 4000 Kresge Way, Louisville, Kentucky 40207.
