Jackson, Mississippi - Susan McLemore Craig passed away on august 16, 2024 at age 79. She was born on May 19, 1945 in Mobile, Alabama. She was the daughter of Howard Dalma McLemore and Willie Ford McLemore of Gulfport, Mississippi. Susan graduated from Gulfport High School in 1963 and then attended Millsaps College, graduating in 1967. During college she was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority and later became a national officer. She graduated with a degree in elementary education and taught at St. Andrews Episcopal lower school.

Susan joined Hinds County Sheriff Malcolm McMillin's team in 1992 where she created the Neighborhood Watch and National Night Out program in Hinds County. At the time of her retirement in 2011 as a Deputy Sheriff there were more than 400 Neighborhood Watch Associations in Hinds County. In 1998 the Neighborhood Watch program in Hinds County was named first in the nation by the National Sheriff's Association and the U.S. Department of Justice. Susan's co-worker Sgt. Luann Jackson was greatly instrumental in accomplishing these results, and the two remained best friends for the remainder of Susan's life.

Susan was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her sister Diane McLemore Martin and brother-in-law David Martin of Ridgeland. She leaves two nephews, Drew Martin (Greta) of Jackson and Daniel Martin (Golly) of Oakland, CA, two great-nephews, Turner Martin and Harrison Martin and one great-niece, McNeil Martin, all of Jackson, MS. Surviving cousins are Sandra Atwell of Houma, LA, Linda Langton and Phillip Erwin of Newbury Park, CA, Gene Ford of Foley, AL, David Ford of Biloxi, MS, Mona Kay Kinsey of Moss Point, MS and Cathy Williams of Panama City, FL.
