Ernesto Vela

Shelby

Ernesto Vela, 44, of Shelby, passed away Thursday, Jan. 6, 2022 after a hard fought health battle. He was born Oct. 29, 1977 in Shelby, the son of Valentin Sr. and Juanita (Flores) Vela.

Ernie, as he was often known, was an avid sports enthusiast; a die-hard fan of the Dallas Cowboys, Michigan Wolverines and Detroit Tigers. He constantly had 'a game to watch' whether it be in person or on TV. You could really tell his passion for sports with his loud whistles and cheering. He had a huge heart and loved very deeply. His kind and gentle nature made him a favorite of both kids and animals. He is already missed by the four dogs, but especially Daisy, his tiny chihuahua. Ernie always had a huge smile on his face, a smile that could truly light up an entire room. He never met a stranger. Everyone was just a friend he hadn't talked to yet. He had a large circle of friends and family and enjoyed making everyone laugh. Ernie was a very loyal person who would always stand up for and protect his family and friends. He especially had great pride in his children oftentimes seen in the stands to support them in various sports and other activities. Ernie also had a love of music. If there wasn't music nearby, he would just make his own. He loved to sing and was often heard singing while working, showering or driving. To put it simply, it was rarely quiet when Ernie was around. He definitely lived life out loud.

Ernesto is survived by his wife, Connie Vela; son, Kaden Vela; and daughter, Jazlyn Vela (Keagon Arquette); sisters, San Juanita Marquez (Johnny) and Trina Luevano (Armando); brothers, Rolando Vela (Adela), Valentin Vela, Jr. (Esperanza) and Valentin Vela III (Mari); in-laws, Leonel and Zulema Herrera; brother-in-law, Dan Ramirez; sister-in-law, Lisa Herrera (Robert Martin); 20 nieces and nephews, 16 great-nieces and great-nephews; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Ernesto was preceded in death by his parents, Valentin, Sr. and Juanita (Flores) Vela; and sister-in law, Marivel Brandel.

It was Ernesto's wish that his friends and family remember the life that he lived. He was a beautiful soul that deserved to be remembered at his best. In keeping his wishes, there will be no services at this time.

“WHITE BOY!”
Is exactly how you greeted me every time I saw you. It made me laugh then and it continues to make me laugh now. That’s the best thing about you Tio, you make everyone’s day better with just your presence. Your smile was contagious but your jokes were even better! This past summer you laughed at me when my grown self laid my head on your shoulder like a little kid. Little did I know that would be the last time I saw you I’ve been staring at the screen for 30 minutes now and I honestly don’t want to submit this. Because I don’t want to say goodbye to you. But I want nothing else than for you to Rest In Peace. So, goodbye Tio Ernie. I will always love you and never forget the memories we have together. Every time that sun comes up, I’ll be thinking about you. ❤

“The Broken Chain”
I didn't know that morning
God was going to call your name. In life I loved you dearly and in death I do the same. It broke our hearts to lose you. You did not go alone lil brother. For, part of us went with you. You left us beautiful memories. Your love is still our guide. And though I can not see you. You are always by my side. Our family chain is broken. And nothing seems the same But as God calls us one by one. The chain will link again. I miss you so very much. My heart will forever be broken. I love you so much! Until we meet again lil brother. ❤
