Marlene Quam Obituary

Stanwood - It is with great sadness we announce Marlene Quam, aged 93, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 10, 2024, in Mt. Vernon, WA.

Marlene Julson was born on the family farm near Plaza, North Dakota to her parents: Noble and Martha. The local physician and a neighbor lady attended.

Marlene grew up on the farm with her younger siblings: Willis and Corinne.

Marlene graduated 6th in her class at Lincoln High School in Tacoma, WA in 1949. She attended North Dakota State University Where she met Milton J. Quam, who was attending Concordia College in Moorhead, MN. They fell in love, and Milton courted her by flying her around North Dakota in his Piper Cub airplane!

They married at Plaza First Lutheran Church in 1950 and stayed in Moorhead until 1952. Milton got a job at Boeing Aircraft in Seattle and they bought their home in Bellevue,WA where they lived for over 30 years.

Marlene and Milton became charter members of Christ the King Lutheran Church in Eastgate in 1956. Church was very important to Marlene. She was an active member of the Women's Guild and attended Bible study. She was well-liked and respected.

When Marlene and Milton retired, they sold their house and bought a fifth-wheel trailer and truck to travel around the U.S.A. full time. Marlene loved it. She loved seeing the country and especially family and friends scattered around the midwest, pacific coast, Arizona and Texas. Marlene and Milton ultimately became "Snow Birds" going back and forth from Long Beach, WA in the summer, to Apache Junction, AZ in the winter. Marlene's cousins from Minnesota also spent the winters in the same RV park, and nearby. Marlene enjoyed the social life there by playing "BINGO!" on Monday evenings. And playing Bridge, Dominos, or Bones with friends.

She leaves behind a legacy of love and dedication to her family, including her daughter: Sonia Hearsey, son-in-law: William Hearsey & granddaughter: Kate Hearsey, daughter: Julie Quam, son: Robert Quam, daughter-in-law: Monica Mattson & granddaughter: Montana Q. Mattson, sister: Corinne Otakie and sister-in-law: Pat Julson and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her devoted husband: Milton Quam, their daughter: Marcia Quam, her parents: Noble and Martha, and her brother: Willis Julson. Father & mother-in-law; Joseph & Sophie Quam, brother and sister-in-law; Irvin & Hazel Quam, Nephew; Ardell Quam, Brother-in-law; Victor Otakie.

Marlene's life was a testament to her strength, intelligence, and especially her laughing spirit. She'll be missed by all who knew her.
