SARAH SARTORIUS Obituary

SARAH CADY SARTORIUS
Our amazing, beloved Sarah Cady Sartorius was born at Christus St. Vincent Hospital on January 24,1985, and died there on July 17, 2025 after a brief, unrelenting and undiagnosed illness. She lived every day to the fullest, saw the best in everyone, and loved without holding back. She found her adventures and peace in the mountains and rivers – camping, hiking, skiing, rafting, and climbing.
SC's first career was inspired by her choice to attend NM School for the Deaf for two years of elementary school. This "voice off" immersion was her foundation for American Sign Language interpreting. She attended both UNM and the University of British Columbia, then earned her law degree from Berkeley. After a few years at the California Civil Rights Law Group, she came home to Santa Fe and quickly started as an Administrative Law Judge in the Human Rights Bureau of the State of NM. At the time of her death, she was Deputy Director of the Labor Relations Division. Devoted to public service, Cady was proud of the entire team she worked with to bring justice to those whose rights had been violated. SC was passionate about volunteering: supporting multiple sclerosis research, serving as a Big Sister during her years in Albuquerque and working as a mountain guide in Guatemala to raise money for the local orphanage were among the many causes that drew her in. Cultivating friendships, bringing people together, and staying in touch with everyone were her special gifts.
Cady met Dylan Beamer in the spring of 2020, welcomed him into her Covid bubble, and fell hard for the man who became her fiancé and the father of their son. Together, they blossomed.
Throughout her life, Sarah Cady set a sparkling example of how to navigate the world and all its challenges. Wherever she went she connected with people, loved many and was loved in return. She had the radiance of a thousand suns. She would have insisted that people must have miscounted, but we didn't. We miss her beautiful smile, her infectious laugh, and her generous heart dearly. Many hearts are broken.
Sarah Cady is survived by her fiancé Dylan and their 14-month-old son Bode Augustus who further brightened both of their lives. She also leaves her parents Fen and JoAnn Sartorius of Santa Fe, her brother Sky Sartorius, Sky's wife An Vy and nieces Sofie and Isabel of San Luis Obispo, and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Cady is also survived by Dylan's extended family whom she loved and embraced wholly, especially his parents Jonathan Beamer and Fran Salkin of Santa Fe, and Melissa Schuler of Oregon.
A celebration of her life will be held August 24, 2:30 pm at UU Santa Fe, 107 W. Barcelona Road.

My Director Melinda Caraballo and I send our deepest sympathy and condolences to Cady's family and friends. Cady was an intricate part of our EEOC-FEPA partnership, and it was a true pleasure working with her. My husband and I shared in the creation of many memories with Sarah Cady, but lost touch with her when we moved to Arizona. We met her through a mutual friend in the MS community, but SC and I shared some similarities. Both of us were born on January 24th, but in different years. We shared an interest in the Deaf community, both studied ASL at UNM, and had many of the same interests, like outdoor sports and live music. Her spirit was penetrating. She will be missed by many people on this earth. Condolences to all those who loved her.

My condolences to Dylan and Bode and the Sartorius family. I worked with Cady for nearly six years. She was an inspiration and advocate for many employees including myself. I recall when she introduced Bode to me he had such a beautiful smile which brightened up the room. This was only matched by the pride reflected in Cady's eyes of her son. I have been and will always be very proud to have been part of Cady's work family.

My condolences go out to those close to Cady. I met her at SFCC at a 2 week leadership intensive. After that she became my confidant and advisor on women rights, healthcare and many other issues for the Democratic Party of New Mexico. She would have made a great President of the United States of America, because she had great empathy and compassion for humanity. Will miss her help to make this world a better place for all. May her soul go on and help us all.

Cady was a delightful and challenging person to work for. She expected the best, and was a role model that never failed to inspire. When I lost my mom recently, Cady was the person who checked on me every few weeks, just to make sure I was doing ok. She was just that sort of person. <3 May her memory be for a blessing.

Cady was a remarkable woman, and she will be forever missed. I had the good fortune of working with her for six years, and she was so much more than my boss. She cared so much about the work we do and was a dear friend. I will never forget during the last few weeks of her pregnancy with Bode her laying on the floor of her office, with her legs up on the wall, editing a document. She was so dedicated. My sincerest sympathies for her family and loved ones. May her memory be eternal.

SC had a light about her that wouldn´t dim. We met because she asked me to mentor her in legal signed language interpreting. I was not surprised that she later pursued a successful legal career. My heart goes out to her parents, fiancé and son

Fen was my doctor for two decades, but was so much more than most doctors. I cannot imagine a loss such as this. I hope the family finds some comfort in knowing that Sarah leaves a lasting legacy.
