Alan Keller
Langston
Sandy, UT-Alan K. Langston, 70, loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed peacefully on September 11, 2024, in Sandy, Utah. He was born on October 14, 1953, in Salt Lake City, Utah, second son of Raymond G. Langston and Edith Mae Keller Langston.
Alan grew up on the Keller property in East Millcreek with his older brother Bradley Ray and younger sister Edie Ann. He had a close relationship with his grandmother Edith Nichol Keller and would frequently sneak across the street to her house for dinners. He attended Sherman Elementary School, Evergreen Junior High, and Olympus High School. He was an accomplished athlete and earned competitive trophies in several sports, including ski racing, ski jumping (gelande), and baseball, and traveled with the family to competitions throughout the West. Alan was also an avid outdoorsman, and loved camping, fishing, and jet skiing. He imparted his love and knowledge of the outdoors to his children, and the family enjoyed many camping trips together, with his favorite locations including Mirror Lake and Flaming Gorge.
Alan was hard-working and dedicated. He served for over forty years at Larry H. Miller Chevrolet as a parts consultant and member of the management team and was the recipient of many service awards. He mastered his craft, often recalling part numbers from memory, and was recognized as a resource for other coworkers and parts departments. He co-authored a business guide on conducting professional inventories that was utilized throughout the auto industry and frequently led parts warehouse inventories across several states.
In retirement, golf was Alan's passion. He was part of the Men's Association at Mick Riley Golf Course and played several rounds per week, including weekly games with the "Whackers" and a monthly private tournament. He frequented courses throughout Northern Utah and enjoyed golf trips to Moab and Mexico with the family. Alan has always been loved and respected by friends and coworkers, and still attended meet ups with high school and neighborhood buddies.
Alan will be remembered as a kind and good son, brother, father, husband, and friend. Reserved and even-tempered, he also had a great sense of humor. He carefully contemplated his thoughts and opinions before sharing them and was a source of knowledge and advice to all who knew him. He took great pride in his family and its roots, and lovingly cared for his parents in their later years.
Alan is survived by his wife Cheryl (Cherie); sister Edie Langston; daughters Mindi Langston, Jennifer Anderson (Darryl), and Angela Langston; son Christopher Langston and stepsons Kurtis Kunz and Daniel Gustafson; eight grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
