Laurie Sherman Obituary

GREAT VALLEY - Laurie Sherman, 61, of Great Valley, passed away Wednesday (July 31, 2024).

She was born July 31, 1963, in Salamanca. Her upbringing took place on Bear Hollow Road in Great Valley.

She attended Ellicottville Central School from kindergarten to graduation in 1981.

Laurie lived in or around the Great Valley area for most of her life. In her younger years, Laurie worked in graphic design at several businesses in the area. In her later years, her favorite job was at Ron's Smoke Shop in Vandalia.

Laurie spent her entire life making people around her feel valued and supported. She enjoyed cooking and baking, and had a knack for making the best brownies with a slightly different recipe every time.

Laurie was an avid member of the Great Valley Fireman's Auxiliary for many years, as well as a member of the Holy Cross club in Salamanca.

She loved her grandchildren fiercely, and was the happiest she has ever been when she was surrounded by them, despite all of life's obstacles that were thrown her way. She raised her son proudly, always supporting his vast and bold endeavors.

She is survived by her only child, a son, Travis (Lindsey) Happoldt; and three grandchildren, Eden Happoldt, Augustus Happoldt and Lincoln Happoldt of Mansfield; and two siblings, her sister Marie (Kendall) Miller and Bob (Linda) Sherman of Great Valley. Also very dear to her were nieces and nephews, including Kristina (Adam) Vosler, Myranda Sherman, Taylor Sherman, Dylan Sherman and all of their children; in addition to a few special friends, the Bear Hollow Girls, Cyndy Stefanski, Peggy Licicero and Kim Middaugh.

She was predeceased by her parents, Joseph Paul Sherman and Sally Irene Sherman Riddle.

Friends may call from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday (Aug. 3, 2024) from Mentley Funeral Home Inc., 411 Rock City St., in Little Valley. Funeral services will immediately follow at 4 p.m. from the funeral home.
