Alberta Griffin Obituary

LITTLETON, Colo. - Alberta M. Griffin, 90, of Littleton, formerly of Salamanca, N.Y., died Monday, Nov. 20, 2023, at Balfour at Littleton.

Born Aug. 14, 1933, in Bennington, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Leo and Florence Ackerman of Bowmansville, N.Y. She was married on Aug. 7, 1965, to Kenneth J. Griffin Jr., who survives.

Alberta was a graduate of Lancaster (N.Y.) High School and earned her bachelor's and master's degrees in education from Buffalo (N.Y.) State College.

She began her elementary school teaching career in 1955 in Alden, N.Y. In 1968, she moved to Salamanca and started her family. She resumed her teaching career in the Salamanca City Central School District until her retirement in 1989.

Alberta was an active member of the community. She enjoyed her time as a Girl Scout leader and softball coach for her daughters and also chaperoned the Salamanca High School marching band on numerous trips. She was a member of the former St. Patrick's Parish and Our Lady of the Peace Parish.

In her spare time, she enjoyed working in her flower gardens and feeding her birds.

Surviving besides her husband are a daughter, Mary Jean Griffin, DVM of Thornton; a son, James (Jeanne) Griffin of Kannapolis, N.C.; daughter, Judith (Scott) Griffin Morris of Littleton; three granddaughters, Samantha Griffin and Savannah Griffin, both of Kannapolis, and Kensley Morris of Littleton.

There will be no visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, 2023, in Our Lady of Peace Parish, 274 Broad St., Salamanca, with Rev. Moses Ikuelogbon as celebrant.

Entombment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Salamanca.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the O'Rourke & O'Rourke Inc. Funeral Home, 25 River St., Salamanca.
