FORT EDWARD/TICONDEROGA - Thomas James Carr, 83, of Fort Edward and formerly of Ticonderoga, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 19, 2024, at Fort Hudson Nursing Home of Fort Edward, after a long battle with dementia.
Born March 6, 1941 in Ticonderoga, NY to Dora and Clarence Carr. Tom grew up in Ticonderoga and then served proudly in the Marines before returning to Ticonderoga. He worked at International Paper for 40 years before suffering from Transverse Myelitis and having to retire.
He and his wife, Sherry of 53 years then spent the winters in Georgia and returned to Glens Falls area in the summers to be with family.
Thomas "Tom" loved to be outdoors, hunting, snowshoeing, biking, four wheeling and working on cars. However, his true passion was to help others. He touched so many people with his huge heart, sense of humor and will to give.
He was a great husband, Dad, Grandpa "Pop" and friend to anyone that would let him into their lives.
Tom was pre-deceased by his parents, Dora and Clarence; brothers, Bob and Kip; sister, Nancy; and daughter, Pam.
He is survived by his wife, Sherry; daughter, Kim; sons: Todd (Kate), Jeff (Lenora) and Jeff # 2; granddaughters: Heather, Lauren, Kristen and Amanda; grandsons: Justin, Nick, Adam, Austin and Brett; and great-grandsons: Jaxson and Hendrix.
Tom's family would like to thank all of his friends, especially Dave and Pat for sharing in his life journey. They would also like to thank Fort Hudson Nursing Home and their incredible staff on S-wing for their amazing care and love for Tom.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Thomas' name may be made to Fort Hudson Nursing Home Foundation.
No Services will be held per Thomas' wishes.

I am so very, very sorry to read of Tom's passing. I have so many memories of him (and Sherry) from my time at Fort Hudson. I remember him well playing soccer with us in the men's lounge and crawling around on the floor shooting at me with a nerf gun when we did our simulated hunting game. He was such a great guy and always so warm and friendly. I will miss him greatly and miss the great times we all had today. Hugs to you Sherry on your loss.
