Charlotte Hollister Obituary

Charlotte (Miner) Hollister

April 30, 1936 - September 25, 2025

Charlotte (Miner) Hollister, 89, passed away peacefully September 25, 2025 surrounded by her daughters at Holbrook Adult Home. She was born April 30, 1936 in Greenfield, MA. and was the only child of Henry O. and Sarah (Upright) Miner. Her early schooling was at the one room Valley School in Halifax, Vt. She skipped third grade and graduated Valedictorian of the Class of 1953 from Whitingham High School, Vt. She pursued a teaching degree at Castleton State College and graduated with the Class of 1957. She started her teaching career in Middlebury and Poultney, Vermont and spent the next 39 years teaching in various positions. She retired in June 1996 from the Whitehall Elementary School where she taught math. Charlotte enjoyed providing help to students that needed extra attention. She organized the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital Math-A-Thon for many years, encouraging students to learn and practice math all while raising over $36,000 for the charity.

On December 28, 1960 she married Myles Roger Hollister of Whitehall, N.Y. at the Castleton Federated Church. They built their first home on the Hollister Farm and raised four caring and accomplished daughters. She was their disciplinarian, kept close tabs on them, and insisted they follow her final wishes.

In 1993, Myles and Charlotte built their retirement home adjoining the Hollister Farm. For many years she enjoyed the sunrises, sunsets, and being close to nature at her Hillcrest home. Other life pleasures included playing cards, gardening, photography, birding, journaling, taking her family out to dinner, hosting holiday gatherings, and above all communicating with her lifelong friends. For over 40 years she cherished writing her annual Christmas letter and finished her last on September 24, 2025.

After the passing of her husband in 1999, Charlotte began extensive travel with special friends Virginia Wood and Ruth Childs to the Canadian Maritimes and Rockies, national parks, Alaska, Hawaii, Europe, the Caribbean and other places around the world.

"Grandma Char" cherished attending academic and sporting events for all of her grandchildren. Her grandsons, Joe and Myles, taught her the game of football while attending their high school games. More recently, she enjoyed watching and rooting for Hollis' favorite team the Buffalo Bills. She cherished her cream-colored fleece blanket from Lorinda. She enjoyed watching Marissa play basketball and grow her photography skills with Grandma's film camera. She also had the pleasure of seeing Malia "Say Yes to the Dress" for her upcoming nuptials. Charlotte appreciated Liam's quick wit and the times they fished together. She lit up when hearing tales from "The Cousin's" fishing excursion on Grandma Char's Alaskan family cruise in July 2025.

She is survived by her four daughters, Cynthia Hollister (Edward Adams) Hampton, N.Y., Nancy (Nathaniel) Huntington, Hudson Falls, N.Y., Debra (Michael) Pauquette, Granville, N.Y., and Hannah (Bartholomew) Ingleston, Hampton, N.Y. Also surviving are six special grandchildren, Lorinda (Brandon) Neddo, Marissa (Josh) White, Malia DeLorme (fiancé Josh Devlin), Joseph (Molly) DeLorme, Hollis Pauquette (fiancée Sarah Fiorello), Liam Ingleston and four nephews and their spouses. She loved her granddogs and watching them play together.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Myles, and beloved grandson, Myles Pauquette. She found comfort in knowing that she would be reunited with her grandson. Calling hours will be at Durfee Funeral Home, 119 North Main Street, Fair Haven, VT on Saturday, October 4, 2025 from 2 to 5 p.m. A private burial will be at Cedar Grove Cemetery, Fair Haven, Vt.

Charlotte's family would like to express heartfelt thanks to the Holbrook Adult Home staff where Charlotte lived out her last years. She always remarked how comfortable she felt at Holbrook and how it became her home away from home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to: Vermont State University, "Choose a Scholarship", Fund Selection, "Castleton Class of 1957 Scholarship" via https://vermontstate.edu/giving/ ; St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at www.stjude.org; or Holbrook Adult Home, 73 North St, Granville, NY 12832.

To Cynthia, Nancy, Debra, and Hannah, and their spouses and grandchildren -- so sorry for your loss. Charlotte will surely be missed by all who knew her. We were 1st clusins on the Miner's side. Feel that I got to know her as we both aged. Her traditional Christmas letter was always a delight to read and keep up to date with her children and grands lives and her many trips. I will miss her, and now there are only 2 of us 1st cousins on the Miner side. God bless and bring you peace, Charlotte.
