Richard "Dick" Stenson, a longtime champion of improving health care in Washington County, passed away Friday, Nov. 3, 2023. Dick was 76 and a Forest Grove resident for many years.
Dick was a career healthcare executive who led several organizations, including Tuality Healthcare in Hillsboro and Forest Grove. He served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Tuality from 1992 to 2014. He actively supported many Washington County organizations, particularly those focused on improving the health and well-being of the county's residents.
Outside of work, Dick loved taking long motorcycle trips with friends, and playing the upright bass and euphonium. He performed monthly with Trautman & Stenson at Out Aza Blue, and played with Tuba Christmas, The Beat Goes On Marching Band, and The One More Time Around Again Marching Band.
Dick was born in Sacramento, Calif., to William and Vera Stenson. He married Doreen Naito Jan. 3, 1992, in Honolulu, Hawaii, where he served as Executive Administrator of Straub Clinic and Hospital. Doreen Stenson survives. Other survivors include daughters, Karli Kondo and Kristin Kondo Storfa; son-in-law, Ryan Storfa; grandchildren, Cadel Storfa, Izabela Kondo, and Camden Storfa; siblings, Bill, Ann, and Bob Stenson; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws. Dick was preceded in death by his brother Jim.
A Celebration of Life for Dick Stenson will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 10, 2023, in the Health Education Center of Hillsboro Medical Center.
