Scott Franko Obituary

Scott Franko, 62, of Canonsburg died, Saturday, June 1, 2024, in his home. He was born April 25, 1962, in Washington, a son of the late John C. Jr. and Marilyn Yancosek Franko. Mr. Franko was a 1980 graduate of Canon-McMillan High School and received his Bachelors Degree in Computer Programming from California University of Pennsylvania in 1984. Scott was recruited by Lockheed Martin right out of college and moved to California to work for them as a Software Engineer. After the big California Earthquake of 1989, he promptly requested a transfer to their Virginia location where he worked for several more years. Around 1994, Scott moved back to Canonsburg and took a position with Union Switch and Signal, where he was a software writer for the train company. After a few years working for Union Switch, he took a consulting job with Fed-Ex where he served as a Software Engineer until retiring on April 30, 2024. Scott was an avid Sci-Fi fan and loved to go to movies with family. He acquired quite a large collection of Sci-Fi figurines and other collectables over the years. He, along with his "number one cousin," as he called him, had a passion for collecting Marvel Comic books, "never DC." In his younger years, Scott was very adventurous, loved to travel and was always game to try new foods that he hadn't had before. Scott purchased a motorcycle many years ago with plans to travel on it, but was never able take the trips that he longed for. Scott lived a full life until his later years, when his health began to decline. He will greatly be missed by so many more people than he ever could have imagined. Surviving are a sister, Hope Slay and her husband, Carlos of Callahan, Fla.; nieces, Cassi Berlofsky (Stephen) and Kristin McCoy; great-nephews, Robert Allan Davies and Issac Anthony Berlofsky; great-niece, Issabelle Berlofsky; uncles, Ronnie Franko (Sherie) of Hartwell, Ga. and Russell Stevens Jr. (Cindy) of Meadowlands; an aunt, Pamela Andrews (Brian) of Brownsville; and many cousins. A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m., Saturday, June 29, in the First United Presbyterian Church, 102 North Main Street, Houston, PA 15342. Arrangements have been entrusted to the McIlvaine-Speakman Funeral Home Ltd., Robert K. McIlvaine, Owner / Supervisor, 27 Cherry Avenue, Houston, PA 15342. It's shocking and deeply saddening to say goodbye to Scott. We worked closely with him on the AMS Modernization project from the beginning. Scott taught us many new things and guided us on how to use them effectively. He was a great guy, always supportive and kind. His contributions and positive spirit will always be remembered. Rest in peace, Scott.

Scott wasn't just a fantastic teammate, he was an equally incredible mentor. His passion for sharing his knowledge and everything he knew about the business has taught many of us so much. His honest opinions in everything we talked about were so amusing and interesting. He will truly be missed, my heartfelt condolences to his family.

I worked with Scott at FedEx from a distance and never met him, but he was a great guy with a good sense of humor who always kept my team and I on our toes. My condolences to the family, he will be missed by many at FedEx.

Words can not express how much Scott impacted FedEx. I will always remember his wry smile and dry sense of humor. Scott worked in the cubicle next to me for many years and he has taught me more than anyone else about the business. He was a good friend that will be sorely missed. What a kind person Scott was to everyone he met. His passion for apple computers was only matched only by his passion for his eclectic palate. We will miss you Scott...
