Martha Baggett

On Sept. 19, 2024, Martha W. Baggett, 91, slipped peacefully into the eternal embrace and everlasting arms of God.

Born in Butts County on Jan. 10, 1933 "Marty" grew up in McDonough and graduated from Henry County High School.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Homer L. Wilkerson and Lillie M. Wilkerson; siblings, Homer L. Wilkerson Jr., Addie M. Tebo, and twin brother, Randolph Wilkerson.

She is survived by her three children, Pamela Cason of Brunswick, Angela Elaine Baggett of St. Simons Island and Hugh Alan Baggett of Atlanta.

After graduating, Marty moved to Atlanta and married in Feb. 1954. She was employed with the Southern Bell Co. until becoming a full-time mom. The family relocated to Brunswick in 1968. A supportive mother and avid car-pooler, Marty encouraged her children's many sports and musical activities. She also enjoyed her weekly bowling league and was a talented seamstress. She loved the Lord and her church, Glyndale Baptist, where she was a member since 1969. Marty worked in education and retail but ultimately, because of her love for others and caring nature, she became employed as a certified home health aide. She continued to care for others until her own health began to decline.

A service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 25, in the sanctuary of Glyndale Baptist Church, 132 Butler Drive in Brunswick. The Rev. Ken Creekmore will be officiating.

A private interment will follow in Palmetto Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association of Glynn.
