RITA WEISS Obituary

WEISS--Rita. Rita Weiss, nee Rita Ginsberg, born on February 10, 1932, passed away peacefully in the morning hours of November 18, 2025 at the age of 93. She was surrounded by family and loved ones and left this world with the grace, strength, and warmth that defined her life. Rita was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, to David and Rose Ginsberg, and lived in Park Slope, and attended Erasmus Hall High School and Beaver College. Her brother, Norman Ginsberg, predeceased her. Rita married Edward Faber (1952 to divorced 1960) and Jules Aronowitz (1963 to divorced 1990) and was the devoted mother of Steven Faber (Cathy Pescevich and Kathrynn Faber), Michael Faber (Joan Shifrin) and Ruth Linda Aronowitz (Stuart Taft). She was the loving grandmother of Stefany, Jennifer and Samantha Faber, Anna and Nora Faber, and Jake and Elliot Taft and she cherished her seven great-grandchildren, Marshall, Maribel, Madeline, Amelia, Max, Charlie, and Nina. In June 1999, Rita found love with Edward Weiss, whom she married and lived with for 15 years of warmth, laughter and affection until his passing in September 2014. Ed's children Philip Weiss (Jane) and Scott Weiss (Pam), and Philp and Jane's children Kimberly, Geoffrey and Ashley, also were a close and happy part of their lives. It was a warm and wonderful life lesson that Rita found true love at 67 and that the third marriage is the charm. Her enthusiasm for people was one of her great traits. She also will be remembered for her kindness, humor, generosity, and her love of her family. She was especially proud of her three children whom she supported and encouraged in their lives and who became a doctor, attorney and banker, respectively. Rita lived the life of a 20th Century woman: a childhood raised in the depression, a young girl living and cooking with ration books during WWII in a household that included her father and mother and six aunts, a marriage early in life to an intractable man, a divorced mom, a working mom, a late-in-life career starting at the age of 46 with an annual salary of $7,000, an advocate for women's rights and the right to choose, and a volunteer with ORT America and other Jewish causes. Only last year was she saddened to finally realize that she would not live to see a woman elected president of the United States. A celebration of her life will be held at dinners in New York City and Washington, D.C. in the new year. Donations in her name may be made to: globalgoodspartners.org. May her memory be a blessing.
