ANDREA MASTRO Obituary

MASTRO--Andrea Kristina.

Andrea Kristina Mastro, an attorney and philanthropist, passed away peacefully on June 13, 2017 in New York City, at age 46, after a long battle with cancer. She fought bravely, and did so with tremendous grace. Beloved wife of Daniel James Hoinacki, loving mother of Adele Sandrine Hoinacki, dearest daughter of Charles and Sigita Mastro, loving sister of Erika Mastro and Max Schneider, and of the late Tony and Amanda Mastro, and dear aunt of Olivia and Leo Schneider and Harry Mastro. Andrea was an amazing woman: smart, courageous, warm, genuine, caring, generous, and kind. She led her life devoted to family, friendship, faith and charity. Andrea possessed a unique inner beauty that inspired all who knew her. She was a wonderful mother and a loving wife, and will be missed dearly. Andrea was born in Chicago in 1970, and grew up in the DePaul area of the Lincoln Park neighborhood. She attended Oscar Mayer Elementary School and Lincoln Park High School. Andrea earned a B.A. in International Relations from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and spent a semester studying abroad in Hamburg, Germany. During her high school and college years, she worked as a fashion model with Elite Model Management. After graduating with a law degree from Chicago-Kent College of Law, Andrea worked as a litigation defense attorney for Chicago-based law firm, Parrillo, Weiss and O'Halloran, before moving to New York City in 2001 to join her fiancee, Daniel Hoinacki, a finance executive. Once in Manhattan, Andrea quickly immersed herself in several charitable causes -- Sarah Powell Huntington House, Camp Interactive, and Bottomless Closet -- where she focused on helping economically disadvantaged women and underprivileged children. Andrea was an active member of The Cosmopolitan Club in New York City, where she served with distinction on several committees and on the Board of Governors. She was also deeply involved in Adele's educational communities, including Christ Church Day School and The Dalton School. A woman of faith, Andrea was a parishioner of the Church of St. Ignatius Loyola. Though she spent much of her adult life in Manhattan, Andrea maintained a strong connection to Chicago, and will be laid to rest in her beloved hometown.

Andrea touched everyone she met. She was that seldom-realized ideal of a beautiful mind in a beautiful person: accomplished in so many areas, sensitive and thoughtful, unpretentious and caring. The range and depth of her accomplishments and contributions were extraordinary. She made a difference, and the sense of loss deepens everyday.

So saddened for Andrea's family and friends about the news of her passing. Although I've not seen her in years she was a good friend during our earlier school years her amazing smile, beautiful eyes, friendly and welcoming nature and silly humorous side will always be remembered. My deepest condolences her spirit will live on in those that were lucky to know her. God Bless.

Andrea was one of the most remarkable women most of us have ever met. She brightened the lives of everyone who had the good fortune to come into contact with her, whether as a relative, friend or even those she hardly knew. She was an inspiration to us all. Our hearts go out to her family.

I am so sorry for your terrible loss. Andrea was an incredible woman. I only knew her when we were children, but even then her light was so brilliant, it was blinding. My deepest sympathy for her family and loved ones.

She walks in beauty, like the night
Of cloudless climes and starry skies;
And all that's best of dark and bright
Meet in her aspect and her eyes;
Thus mellowed to that tender light
Which heaven to gaudy day denies.

One shade the more, one ray the less,
Had half impaired the nameless grace
Which waves in every raven tress,
Or softly lightens o'er her face;
Where thoughts serenely sweet express,
How pure, how dear their dwelling-place.

And on that cheek, and o'er that brow,
So soft, so calm, yet eloquent,
The smiles that win, the tints that glow,
But tell of days in goodness spent,
A mind at peace with all below,
A heart whose love is innocent.

Lord Byron 1813

In loving memory of Andrea, beloved friend, with gratitude to her family.
