Elizabeth "Liz" Rinkema (nee Hoekstra), of Naperville, IL, died Thursday, October 5, 2017 at the age of 95. She passed away peacefully in her sleep. She was a loving wife to her childhood sweetheart, Harry, and the proud mother of Marsha Rinkema, husband Bill Davis; Bob Rinkema, wife, Allegra Miller; and Linda Rinkema Jones, husband James Jones. She lovingly spent her time with grandchildren Geoffrey (Tara Janicki) Murphy, Richard (Kimberly Raynor-Smith) Rinkema, Emily (Bill Rich) Rinkema, Peter Rinkema, Jessica (Jason) Moment, Zachary (Julie-Lynn) Jones, and was preceded in death by Matthew Murphy. Elizabeth was happily blessed with nine great-grandchildren, Emilie, Ben, Eliza, Henry, Isabel, Evan, Stella, Cecilia, and Wesley. Elizabeth was born in South Holland, IL in 1922. She graduated from Thornton Township High School and as a young woman worked in her father's dry cleaning business. After her marriage to Harry, she enjoyed taking care of her family and creating a beautiful home and garden for all to enjoy. She loved sewing, painting, flower arranging, poetry, cooking and baking. She always had a dog that she lovingly trained, walked and groomed. Liz and Harry were charter members of Knox Presbyterian Church in Naperville, IL. Liz was always active in the church, a member of the a Bible study circle and volunteered for many of the church's charitable programs. Liz lived in many places, including Connecticut, Georgia, and Italy, but she spent most of her time in the city of Naperville which she called home for over 50 years. She and Harry enjoyed traveling all over the world. She was optimistic, kind and valued creating a happy loving home for her family and friends. Memorial visitation Saturday, December 2, 2017, 9:30-11:00 AM at Knox Presbyterian Church, 1105 Catalpa Lane, Naperville. A Memorial service will be held Saturday, 11:00 AM at Knox Presbyterian Church with Rev. Cindy Karis officiating. Family and friends will process to Naperville Cemetery for committal services.
