Virginia Sanders Obituary

Virginia A. Sanders, 80, of Mason City, IL, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 13, 2026, at HSHS St. John's Hospital in Springfield, IL. She was born on December 13, 1945, in Lincoln, IL, the daughter of Glenn Lockenour and Margaret (Bagby) Lockenour. She married James Sanders on August 30, 1969, at the Mason City Christian Church. He preceded her in death in 2012.

Virginia is survived by one sister, Betty (Gene) Hull of Mason City, IL, sister-in-law, Janet Lockenour of Omaha, NE, and five nieces and two nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, John Lockenour and Robert Lockenour.

Virginia owned and operated the White Front Café in Mason City for 5 years and later worked at TT's Grocery Store in Mason City for several years.

She will be forever known for her love of cardinal birds, working crossword puzzles, talking to her friends on the phone, and drinking her coffee.

Cremation has been accorded. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at 1:00pm at Mason City Cemetery with Steve Bagby to officiate. Memorial donations may be made in her memory to The Mason City Area Nursing Home Activity Department.
