Joe grew up in Newark, NJ and moved to Old Bridge in the 60's, where he and his wife Bernice raised their three children. He was a hard worker, having started working at a young age shining shoes, selling fruit and sweeping floors at the local butcher shop. He worked at Strickland Transportation Co., The Wiz, W.W. Grainger, and finally retired at age 78 from Raritan Bay Medical Center, Old Bridge, after 13 years of service. Joe was proud of having received the Bob Hoyt award while employed at Raritan Bay, which was an annual award given to a hospital team member who exemplified compassion and concern for patients, visitors and colleagues. He was also very proud of his boxing career, both Golden Gloves and professionally.
Joe enjoyed his dog Abby, gardening, and chatting with neighbors as he sat on his driveway smoking a cigar. On weekends you could always find him at a flea market, estate sale or garage sale.
Joe had a large, loving family. He is predeceased by his parents Joseph and Antonette Damiano, his son Joseph, his twin brother Robert, brothers Sam, Frank and Donald and sister Julia DePack.
Joe is survived by his wife of 65 years, Bernice, his daughter Annette Cerra and her husband William of Old Bridge, his daughter Lorraine Bruschini and her significant other Anthony Bonifazi of Hamilton, his grand daughter Gina Nye and her husband Steven and his great grand children Greyson and Stevie Jo of Barnegat, brothers William, Anthony and Michael, sisters Patricia Honan and Antonette Franklin, special ladies Joanne Leggio and Dawn Holst, his best friend, best neighbor and a blessing, Patrick McFarland, any many nieces and nephews.

Joe's Memorial Gathering will be held Wednesday, July 13, 2022, 3:30 pm - 6:00 pm at Old Bridge Funeral Home, 2350 Old Bridge Matawan Road, Old Bridge, NJ 08857
A celebration of his life services will be on Wednesday, July 13, 2022, 6:00 pm at the Old Bridge Funeral Home, Old Bridge, NJ, with friend and Pastor Balzamo officiating.
Cremation will take place at Jersey Memorial Crematory. Online condolences can be given at www.oldbridgefh.com.
No flowers please. Your prayers, presence and support is all that is needed at this difficult time.

Uncle Joey, Be at peace in heaven with everyone in our family, enjoy Nanny's cooking again! Thank you for all the memories growing up. I enjoyed our visit so much earlier this year and am so grateful for it. Although we didn't spend a lot of time together as I grew up, I loved seeing you at all our parties and catching up. Growing up I had other brothers and sisters, but my brother Joey and I were really close. We did so much together and Joey always looked out for me. I just wish that we could have spent more time together in our senior years. Joey was tough and worked hard. He will me missed so much by many friends, and family. Joey I love you, and God will watch over you. Rest in Peace my Brother.
