Joe Byers Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Clark Funeral Home - Neosho on Mar. 16, 2026.
Joe Byers, a man of steadfast character and remarkable skill, passed away unexpectedly on March 12, 2026, in Neosho, Missouri, at the age of 85.

Born in Greeley, Colorado, to Mark Byers and Willie Charnley, he was the youngest of eight children. He spent his childhood in Greeley Colorado, Chugwater Wyoming, Aurora Colorado and finally in Aspen Park Colorado where he and his father built a homestead in 1955. He raised his family there with his wife Rita who preceded him in death in 1998, and he continued living there until November 2024.

Joe's journey was defined by a profound work ethic and a deep-seated pride in his craft. A proud member of Local UA 208, he dedicated his career to his work as a journeyman pipefitter. As a master welder, Joe possessed the rare ability to bend metal to his will, creating enduring treasures that served as a testament to his artistry and technical brilliance.

Beyond his professional life, Joe was a man of eclectic passions. He was an avid collector with a keen eye for the unique, finding joy in his vast assembly of VHS tapes and a meticulously curated collection of miniature antique cars and trucks. Those who knew him well will fondly remember his spirit at the karaoke microphone, where he frequently paid tribute to the "Man in Black," Johnny Cash, with a voice full of heart.

His legacy of strength and independence lives on through his family. He is survived by his four children: Jolene Luetkemeyer of Warrenton, MO; Barry Byers of Oscoda, MI; Colene Byers of Neosho, MO; and Garry Byers of Littleton, CO. He also leaves behind a lasting lineage of eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

In honor of Joe's patriotic spirit, the family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Disabled American Veterans, c/o Clark Funeral Home, P.O. Box 66, Neosho, MO 64850.

Services:

A celebration of Joe's life will be held on Friday, April 24th, 2026, at Evergreen Memorial Park with a graveside service at 2pm, followed by a reception in The Barn.
