Nathaniel Peters, 95, was born October 23, 1930, and passed away from this world on February 25, 2026. Nathaniel, known as Nat (and Sonny to his siblings), was a believer in the risen Messiah and lived his life as a testimony to that belief. He was a man of integrity, and his word was his bond. Nat believed in always giving his best effort, no matter the task; and he taught his five sons the same. He loved his family dearly, was absolutely devoted to his loving wife Joyce, and was very proud of all his sons.
Nat is survived by his wife of 67-plus years, Joyce Parkinson Peters; his children Nathaniel Peters, II (Bedra), Craig Peters, Ray Peters (Laura), Aaron Peters (Deborah), and Wayne Peters (Kathleen); 13 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; siblings Vickie Thoman and Ed Peters (Donna); and many nieces and nephews.
Nat was predeceased by his parents David and Lula Peters, his daughter-in-law Cecelia Peters (Craig); and his siblings John D. Peters, Del Cloyd, Mary Shannon, Ginny King, David Peters, Wadia Peters, Sam Peters, and Mike Peters.
Nat was a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ where he taught high school Sunday School classes for nearly 15 years. He also served a term as church treasurer. He was then a member of Fern Creek United Methodist Church for over 40 years, where he taught adult Sunday School classes for approximately 25 years and served on the Church Council. Nat was a pilgrim on Walk #3 of the Elizabethtown Emmaus Community in 1984 and became treasurer of the Louisville Emmaus Community when it started in 1986.
Nat was the owner/operator of Southeast Sharpening Service for 50 years. Before opening his business, he was a local truck driver for several companies including: Yellow Freight, Clemens, and Tucker Freight Lines. He was a member of the Teamsters Union (Local 89) and served as a Union Steward.
Nat was an Army veteran, stationed in Germany, during the Korean War. He valued education and was particularly proud of his training at the Louisville Radio School which allowed him to get a job working as a technician in the RCA television factory in Bloomington, IN, in the 1950s. Nat was especially proud that all five of his sons earned college degrees.
