Rusty Bromwell

NORTH LIBERTY - Rusty Bromwell of North Liberty Iowa died on July 24, 2023, after a long, valiant battle with ALS.
A time for celebrating Rusty's life will be held Thursday, August 3rd at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City, beginning with visitation from 4:00 pm to 6:30 pm and remarks, special music, and military honors will conclude the evening. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in his memory for future education expenses for their son, Carson.
Rusty Ray Bromwell was born January 23, 1977, in Muscatine, Iowa the son of Robert and Roberta Bromwell. Rusty received his Eagle Scout in 1994, graduated from Muscatine High School in 1995. He served as a missionary in Resistencia, Argentina for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, becoming fluent in the Spanish language, and falling in love with the Argentine culture. Returning to this area following his mission work, he attended and graduated from Muscatine Community College. Here he would meet the love of his life, Erin and later marry on June 23, 2001. Before their marriage he enlisted in the United States Army with basic training starting in January of 2000. He would become a Spanish Linguist in the Army stationed in San Antonio, Texas. Following his honorable discharge in 2005, he and Erin moved to the Iowa City area where he worked at post offices in Iowa City, Mt. Vernon, and Marion. In 2013, Rusty left the Post Office and began working at the VA Hospital in Iowa City, where he enjoyed talking to and helping fellow Veterans.
Rusty enjoyed life to its fullest, gambling at the Riverside Casino, playing cards with his family, fishing, bicycling (especially his RAGBRAI adventures), watching movies, cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes, coaching his son, Carson's basketball team, and attending and supporting Carson in all his activities. Rusty will be remembered for his kind, friendly, and generous nature, his willingness to help others, his ability to talk to anyone about anything, and his devote patriotism.
Rusty's family includes his adoring wife, Erin; their son, Carson; parents, Robert & Roberta of Muscatine; brothers, Robert Bromwell Jr. of Tampa, FL and Brad Bromwell of Warrensburg, MO; sisters, Alta Tobey of Muscatine, Bobbi Bunn of Muscatine and sister Terresa Murray of Columbus Junction; and Rusty's in laws, Leon and Sue Carson of North Liberty. Rusty joins his loving grandmother, Alice Markin of Muscatine.
