October 28, 1943 - April 6, 2024

Dorothy (Dottie) Elizabeth Shuping Henline, age 80, passed away on April 6, 2024, after a period of declining health. She was a native of Valdese, the daughter of the late Jacob and Frances Arnold Shuping. She was a graduate of Drexel High School and High Point University. She and her late husband Glenn lived in Winston-Salem, Valdese, Williamston, and Marion, NC for different periods of time. She was a public and private school teacher of French and English as well as a school librarian for many years and ended her career as a GED instructor at WPCC. She enjoyed doing mission work with her late husband. She also enjoyed baking and playing the piano as well as reading and writing poetry and stories. Wherever she lived, she loved serving her church. Over the years, she was a choir member, pianist, Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher, GA leader, women's missions group devotee, church clerk, organizer of the church libraries and writer of encouragement cards to friends, neighbors and church members. She was a member of Burkemont Baptist Church. She is survived by three brothers, Gary Shuping of Forest City, Clyde Shuping, and Paul Shuping (Melanie); her two daughters, Regina Bryson (David) and Karon Ulrich (Robert); and seven grandchildren, Makenzie Jackson (Will), Savannah Shaw (Danny) and Jessica Bryson, Noah, Seth, Isaiah, and Nathan Ulrich; as well as three great-grandsons, Wolfe Bryson, Buchanan Shaw and Indiana Bryson; and one great-granddaughter, Baby Jackson arriving in June; also many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

A cryptside service will be held at Burke Memorial Park Mausoleum on Saturday, April 13, at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to: Pregnancy Care Center of Burke County, 113 Clay St, Morganton, NC 28655 or Baptists on Mission, 205 Convention Dr, Cary, NC 27511.

I was a library assistant with Mrs. Henline at Oak Hill Junior High. She was a wonderful lady and I loved her. She gave me a book when I left there for high school.

Dottie and Glen were delights to know. I was blessed to serve with them through Pregnancy Care ministry and then later these last years as one of Dottie's pastors. Our last visit a few weeks ago was typical for her to encourage and ask how she might pray for the church and several she has been praying for. How wonderful to know she is delivered to her heavenly home.

I was a student of Mrs. Henline at Oak Hill Jr. High. I remember her being soft spoken and kind.
