James "Buzz" Kozar, 87, died Tuesday, November 28, 2023 at home with family.
He was a proud lifelong resident of Virginia's "North side," third child of Joseph and Mary (Pavich) Kozar.
He had a passion for family, sports and the outdoors. While he won many tournaments and trophies in hockey, pool and golf, the lifelong friendships he built were his true rewards.
Buzz retired after 35 years at LTV, many of those years spent advocating for and representing Local Union 4108.
He is survived by his children, Lynn (Richard) Rozell of Tucson, Brian (Rebecca) Kozar of Cook and Scott (Jessica) Kozar of Grand Rapids; brother, Robert Kozar of Edina; sisters, Marcia Tilden of Grand Rapids and Mary Kay (Steve) Duerr of Florida; grandchildren, Andrew (Amanda) Rozell, Benjamin (Ann) Hallfrisch, Samantha (Neil) Hallfrisch Baumgarner; seven great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and wonderful friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn; parents, and a brother Gerald.
A beautiful birthday celebration was planned by dear friends Greg and Anne Flaim at Flaimer's with nearly 200 friends and family in attendance. A memorial service is not planned at this time.
