With a heavy heart, we share the passing of Edmund Arthur Richter. Ed, as he was known to everyone, passed away on Monday, Aug. 26, 2024, at 3:29 p.m. at Brickyard Healthcare-Terrace Care Center, when his broken heart, for his wife Judy, gave up.
Ed was born in Pottsville, Pennsylvania, and later adopted by Edmund B. and Louise (Hansen) Richter and lived in La Porte his whole life, graduating from La Porte High School.
On Nov. 2, 1974, Edmund married Judy (Stephens), who passed almost a month ago. Together, they spent 50 years as a loving couple, renowned in La Porte as the "Happily Married Couple." Their affectionate dynamic was evident to everyone they encountered, as Ed lovingly doted on Judy and made it his mission to keep her happy.
Although Ed and Judy didn't have children, they shared their home with many cats they rescued or adopted from the local animal shelter. Ed didn't have a favorite, as he called them all his children. They are survived by their nephew, Christopher (Aey) Stephens of Rockwall, Texas.
Ed, a devout Christian, deeply loved Jesus and was known for his ministry work at La Porte Hospital as a volunteer Chaplain. He would minister to many others and had been a chaplain at Brickyard Healthcare-Terrace Care Center for many years where he eventually lived and passed. Ed worked for the city of La Porte at Transporte for over 20 years and later at McDonald's and Al's Grocery after retiring from the city.
During his months at Brickyard Healthcare-Terrace Care Center, Ed was surrounded by his loving wife Judy, until she passed, and many caring friends. Fred and Charlie were some of those friends that made him laugh.
Special thank you to each of the nurses, aides and more who showered him with love each day at Brickyard Healthcare-Terrace Care Center. Special thank you to Patricia and Betty from Dunes Hospice, who cared for him daily and loved him like family.
