Nora LORENSON Obituary

After a valiant effort, loving wife, mother, and grandmother, Nora Annette Lorenson, age 75, lost her battle with ovarian cancer on June 11, 2024. She was born February 14, 1949; her husband always said he got a "twofer", birthday gift and valentine gift in one.

Formerly from Fayetteville, NC, she met her husband at Ft. Bragg, and after marrying they moved to Spokane. Together with her husband of 55 years, they made their home on Orchard Prairie in Spokane, where they raised three children.

She is survived by her husband, Jim of Spokane; children, Douglas from Pennsylvania, Laura of Spokane, and Daniel of Spokane; plus four grandchildren, Hunter, Gabriel, Hana, and Laith. She was preceded in death by her parents, Delbert and Edna Page of Fayetteville, NC; and brother, Kenneth R. Page of Rockledge, Florida.

She felt her biggest accomplishment in life was her family. She was devoted to them. As parents, both she and Jim attended hundreds of youth soccer and baseball games. She loved family vacations when all her children and grandchildren were present. Trips to Ireland, Europe, Central America, Hawaii, and the "blue house" on the outer banks of North Carolina were her favorite vacations. She loved the noise, chaos, and energy of having everyone under one roof.

Annette was a long-time quilter and donated many quilts to shelters for women as well as to the Quilts of Valor Foundation. She loved to sing and often teased her family that she could have been in a 60's rock band had she answered the phone.

She was excited to have their home filled with people during Christmas dinners, summer picnics, and sledding parties in the winter. She enjoyed the holidays and especially the first snow of the year. If it snowed on Thanksgiving Night, she always told her children and grandchildren it was magic snow.

Together she and Jim drove across the country several times and scoured antique stores along the way, looking for pocket watches and vintage quilts. They loved the game of soccer and had season tickets to the Seattle Sounders. But there was no place like home. They enjoyed looking at the deer in the yard, the occasional moose that wandered through, and the Canadian geese that flew over in the fall.

She worked for West Valley High School for 20 years. At the high school, she assisted juniors and seniors in preparation for the next step of their lives. She referred to them as her kids - her school kids, and she was highly respected by these school kids as she helped them through their next step. Her door would constantly swing open, and a student would say "Mrs. Lorenson I have a problem." She would reply, "There are no problems that we cannot solve by working together."

A family graveside service will be held on August 25, 2024, at 1:00pm, at Union Cemetery, on Orchard Prairie. All are welcome to attend.

Diane Watters/Greater Spokane QOV Group

August 24, 2024

Very sorry to hear of Nora Annette Lorenson's passing. In July of 2020, Annette donated to our Greater Spokane Quilts of Valor group (GSQOV) received a beautifully pieced patriotic quilt top; pattern called "Fireworks". That quilt top (quilted & bound by GSQOV members) was awarded to a U.S. Navy, Vietnam veteran (who was a submariner) ... fulfilling the Quilts of Valor mission to comfort and heal service members and veterans touched by war. Annette's name is on the label of that quilt as the piecer and as one who cared about the service of others. Annette will forever be remembered by the veteran who received this Quilt of Valor in honor of his military service as well as her quilting friends for the gift of her quilting talents to comfort others.
