Charles McEachern Obituary

Charles P. McEachern

Peterborough NH - Charles P. McEachern, 82, of Peterborough, devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away peacefully and surrounded by the love of his family on August 16, 2024. He was born in Boston, MA on April 7, 1942, the son of John B. and Angeline T. (Sheehan) McEachern, along with his twin brother, John, with whom he shares brother, David.

Charlie attended Monsignor Coyle High School (Class of 1959) in Taunton, MA. He was the first in his family to graduate from college, attending Stonehill College (Class of 1963) before earning his PhD in chemistry at the University of Notre Dame in 1969. A member of the American Chemical Society for 60 years, Charlie began his career as a research chemist. He moved from the lab to the classroom, finding real fulfillment as a substitute teacher in the ConVal school district for over 20 years.

As a devout Catholic, he was driven by his faith, focused on love, compassion and service. He shared this faith with his wife Cecelia, as a parishioner of the Divine Mercy Parish in Peterborough and embraced his membership in the Knights of Columbus. His love of music led to his enthusiastic participation in many church choirs, including the St. Louis Diocesan Choir, which sang at St. Peter's Basilica in a Mass celebrated by Pope John Paul II. He also joined several regional choral groups and was a member of the Monadnock Chorus beginning in 2001 after relocating to the area.

In addition to his loving wife of 56 years, Cecelia A. (Weibel) McEachern of Peterborough, he leaves behind his children, Mary, husband Steve Macaulay and their children Thomas and Nathan of Melbourne, Australia, Ann of Waltham, MA and John and wife Loren Larsen of Newton, MA and their children, Maven, Marlo, and Charlie; brothers, John and David, wife Susan; several nieces and nephews and many friends.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday, August 23 at 10:00am at Divine Mercy Parish, 12 Church Street, Peterborough, NH followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00am also at Divine Mercy Parish. Burial will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery, Peterborough.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Charlie's name to Home Healthcare, Hospice and Community Services, 312 Marlboro Street, Keene, NH 03431 or Divine Mercy Parish Women's Guild (at the above address), both of whom provided unwavering support to Charlie and his family for several months.
