Elizabeth Ritt Obituary

Ritt, Elizabeth J. (nee Ring) Age 84, of Crystal Lake, passed away on November 19, 2013, in Woodstock, IL. Elizabeth "Betty" was born on February 19, 1929 in Highland Park, IL to Norman and Ethel Ring. Elizabeth spent her early years in the Antioch/Lake Villa area, and graduated from Antioch High School in 1947. After marriage and moving to Crystal Lake, she worked in the offices of Drs. Hillstrom, Bryant and Wall, and also Dr. Paul Wilson. She was an admissions coordinator at McHenry County College until 1984 when she suffered disabling injuries in an auto accident. She was a creative woman, who always had several projects going at one time. She loved cooking, baking, sewing, needlework and gardening. She designed and made many banners for Immanuel Lutheran Church. After her car accident and many months of rehabilitation, she found new ways to give of herself through volunteering, crafting and being a grandma. Elizabeth spent most of her time maintaining and nurturing the relationships that were such an important part of her life. She is survived by two daughters, Cynthia Ritt (Andy Snarski), Barbara (Mark) Balasi, and her AFS daughter, Ana Maria (Oscar) Pereira; grandchildren, Geoff Balasi, Maria Balasi, Alexandre Pereira, Ana Paula Pereira, Nicole Snarski and Alex Snarski. She is also survived by three sisters, Laura Barden, Arvis (George) Nelson, Aleeta Osmond; two brothers, Edward Ring and Wallace (Vicki) Ring; former husband, Vernon Ritt; 30 loving nieces and nephews, and those who lovingly refer to her as "other mother." She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Lester Ring. Elizabeth was a loving mom, daughter, sister, aunt and friend. She was beloved by many and a friend to all who knew her. She was an example of courage and determination to everyone who knew her life story. Despite her challenges, she never gave up. She never quit. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the memorial service at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 7, 2013 at Davenport Funeral Home, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake, IL. Cindy and Barb, Your mom was a very loving, courageous, caring, and exceptional woman. I was happy to call her my sister. I will miss calling her and hearing her voice even if it were for a minute. She made my day, i hope i made hers. We would end the call by telling each other that we love them. She had a tremendous love for her family. She is now at peace and watching over all of us and smiling down, knowing one day she will see us again. Love to you both.

Cindy and Barb. My thoughts are with you. Most of my memories of your Mom are from the time she lived with my Mom. She was determined to be as active and do things on her own as possible. And she always missed you two so much. We will all miss her.

Cindy and Barb....
I can't stop looking at that beautiful picture of your Mother.
So much kindness in those eyes that it brings tears to mine. She was one of the most loving, giving, courageous, honest and devoted people I ever knew. I was truly blessed to have her for my sister.
When I look at those eyes I see a true heart and an angel. She is not just in a better place. She is one of Gods best angels and she will be touching the hearts of many again.
Know in your heart that she will be beside you when ever you need her as you were for her in the hours, weeks, months and years of heartache and pain.
That is the face of an angel and she has that face on again.
Believe!
I love you both....Aunt Aleeta

One of my favorite 4th of July memories was at Aunt Betty's house. Sitting on blankets and towels watching the fireworks with cousins and Aunts & Uncles. Childhood magic!
She will be missed, but more importantly she was greatly loved.
With love & sympathy to my cousins-

Cindy, Barb and families ~

My heart ached when Donna told me the news. What a strong, courageous fighter your mom was. I'm sorry I can't be with you in person during the next few weeks. Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers.

Let the love of others support you during the natural grieving process. She was such a big part of your lives that you may feel a void and lost at times. Reach out to those close to you and also those who have been there, for support.

I always loved going to your house when I was younger. Your mom was so cool! I remember the crafts she made, Christmas crafts and beautifully decorated presents. I will miss visiting with her when I come home for Christmas.

Aunt Betty, I will truly miss our visits and strolls outside to see the flowers, see and hear the birds and just to talk. You were such a role model of strength & inspiration to me that I will never forget. So often, you would point to your mouth, shrug your shoulders and just say . . . "smile, whatever". Now you truly have something to smile about with all your friends and family that have gone before you. I will miss you. Love you!
