On Saturday, February 7, 2026, at 4:11 p.m., God carried Dr. Bruno Gerald Mitchell home.
Dr. Mitchell was born on August 9, 1968, in Dorchester County, South Carolina. He was the beloved son of the late Albert and Rosabell Smith Mitchell. He received his early education in the Dorchester County Public Schools before embarking on an extraordinary academic and professional journey marked by dedication, discipline, and a deep commitment to excellence.
Dr. Mitchell pursued higher education with unwavering determination, earning multiple degrees from distinguished institutions:
· Doctor of Information Technology, Capella University, 2023
· Master of Science in Cyber Security, with a Graduate Certificate in Cybersecurity – Threat Detection, 2018
· Master of Science in Computer Resources and Information Management, Webster University, 2001
· Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, The Citadel, 1996
Dr. Mitchell accepted Christ as his Savior at Canaan United Methodist Church in Ridgeville, South Carolina. On February 9, 2019, he joined the historic Alfred Street Baptist Church in Alexandria, Virginia, where he continued to grow in faith and fellowship.
A proud Marine, Dr. Mitchell served his country with honor for 21 years. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in July 1987 and later earned his commission as an officer in 1996. He retired in 2008 with the rank of Major, leaving behind a legacy of leadership, integrity, and service.
Following his military career, Dr. Mitchell continued to serve the nation as a federal employee. At the time of his passing, he worked as an Operations Manager with the Internal Revenue Service, where he was respected for his expertise, professionalism, and steadfast commitment to his work.
Dr. Mitchell was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Rosabell Smith Mitchell, and by his siblings Roger (Celestine) Mitchell and Jerome D. Mitchell.
Those left to cherish his memories are his siblings: Alfreda Mitchell, Clifford Mitchell (Cynthia), Earl Mitchell (Doris), and Dale Mitchell; his nieces and nephews: Denero Ashe, Jerome Glover, Bryan Mitchell, Tiffani Williams, Shaniece Mitchell, and Rochelle Mitchell; his great-nieces and great-nephews; his longtime partner, Colin Wilson; and a host of loving family members and friends who will forever remember his strength, kindness, and unwavering spirit.
Dr. Bruno Gerald Mitchell lived a life defined by service, scholarship, and faith. Through the selfless act of organ donation, several lives have been given new hope. His loving spirit will forever inspire all who knew and loved him, serving as a reminder of the profound difference one person can make in the lives of others.
