Michael Leonard Jewell, 70, of Sodus passed away Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at Hanson Hospice Center in Stevensville.
A celebration of life service will be at noon on Friday, June 21, at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Road, St. Joseph. Burial will follow in Shanghai Cemetery in Eau Claire. Friends may visit with the family from 10 a.m. to noon on Friday at the funeral home.

Michael was born May 30, 1954, in Benton Harbor, to Burton and Virginia (Martin) Jewell Jr. He graduated from Benton Harbor High School in 1972 and enlisted into the U.S. Army. He proudly served with the 411th MP Co. stationed at Fort Hood, Texas. He then attended college in Indiana, majoring in pastoral theology and is a retired public safety dispatcher for Berrien County. Michael was an indie author/publisher and enjoyed writing historical fiction. He was a member of the Western Writers of America.
Michael was a devoted husband, brother and friend. Michael came to know his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ as a young boy and remained faithful to him throughout his entire life. Mike was a stalwart defender of God's word and lived in it daily. Mike was used of God to proclaim the loving Gospel of Jesus Christ and lead many to his saving knowledge.
On Sept. 4, 2009, he married his friend and faithful companion, Rita Beatty.
Michael is survived by his wife, Rita Jewell; siblings: John (Laurie) Jewell, Nancy (William) Holverson, Cynthia (Michael) Coosard and Dan (Leann) Jewell and several nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews
Michael was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Susan (Wolske) Jewell.
