Mitzie Clarke Obituary

Mitzie Anne Clarke passed away on August 26th, 2024 in Tulalip, WA. She was diagnosed with cancer of the appendix and died 3 months later.

Mitzie was born in Lincoln,NE and three months later she and her parents moved to Tacoma,Washington where she lived for the first few years of her life. At age 3 she was diagnosed with Autism. Her diagnosis was later changed to Rett Syndrome at the age of 16.

Mitzie grew up in the Puget Sound region - from Tacoma to Lynnwood to Everett and finally to Tulalip. She attended various schools and, in 1994, she graduated with her class at Everett High School. At graduation, she was given the class award of "Best Walker". She had led their field trips with confidence. Mitzie had not sat down on the sidewalk and refused to get up. She also had not stopped traffic on 41st Street. Her parents were very proud their "Best Walker ".

Growing up, Mitzie enjoyed doing many things with her family. She visited Trinidad, W.I., British Columbia, Disneyland, Nebraska, Lake Chelan, and Oregon. She liked riding horses with "Little Bits and Equifriends. She attended the spin dances at Forest Park and enjoyed swimming in a pool whenever available. She was also fond of good food and a wide variety of snacks.

Mitzie lived the last 26 years with her mother. She also had the help of many caregivers who were like family members. We would to give a special thanks to her last 2 caregivers, Judy Salisbury who loved and cared for Mitzie for over 18 years, and her sister-in-law Alina. We give thanks to Providence Hospice Care for their help in her final days. Mitzie brought smiles to many people and we appreciate those who were able to put a smile on her face. She needed lots of assistance throughout her life. Thanks to anyone who gave her a helping hand. Mitzie was a teacher in her own way, she taught us all how to be more empathetic and to appreciate every special moment.

Mitzie is survived by her mother, JoAnne Pesheck, her father Anthony Clarke, her sisters Alicia, Kailyn and Alyse, two brothers Jovan and Caros, along with many family members from afar. She was also loved by 5 nieces and nephews. Mitzie was preceded in death by her brother John, her grandparents Thelma and Charles Hatfield, of Lexington,NE. Also, Vera and Julius Clarke of Port-of-Spain, Trinidad W.I. , and lastly by two Uncles Gary and Bertrand.

She will be laid to rest in Lexington, NE in the family plot. Mitzie is already missed everyday and will continue to be so. A celebration of her life will be announced at a later date.

Mitzie brought joy to my life in many ways. I LOVED her big smiles and occasional chuckles. When she leaned into my shoulder to give me a "hug". How she liked her bath so much she'd go right to the tub and try to get in by herself. I will remember her with love for the rest of my life. She was like another daughter to me.
