Maria Valencia de Gumá Obituary

Maria Consuelo Valencia de Gumá

May 17, 1942 - October 24, 2024

Coral Gables, Florida - With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Maria Consuelo Valencia de Gumá in her home in Coral Gables, Florida, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Born in Caracas, Venezuela, on May 17, 1942, to Jesus Maria Valencia, a Colombian marble merchant, and Amalia del Carmen Niño. Consuelo carried with her a sense of adventure and a heart full of kindness.

Consuelo is survived by her devoted husband of 65 years, Virgilio Arturo Gumá San Pedro, and her four children: Marie Oiligriv Guma-Diaz, Virgilio Arturo Jr., Marie Geraldine Gumá, and Johanna Marie Guma-Aguiar. She was cherished by her eleven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, who will forever hold her memory close.

From a young age, Consuelo had vision and courage. In 1977 she started with her family an extraordinary journey, moving from Venezuela to the United States. What was meant to be a short stay became a new beginning. It was her belief that learning English would empower her children in ways unimaginable. Leaving behind everything she knewher possessions, friends, and extended familyConsuelo chose to embrace the unknown for the betterment of her loved ones. Her foresight and bravery paved the way for opportunities that would shape generations.

Together with her husband, she established G Properties, a thriving real estate business. Beyond entrepreneurship, her mission was community. She provided employment for friends and family, always extending a helping hand to those in need. Her true legacy, however, lies in the countless lives she touched through her compassion.

Consuelo had an immense heart for those less fortunate, and her kindness knew no boundaries. From teaching reading at women's prisons, to supporting a church in the Bahamas, delivering shoes to children in Colombia, funding schools in Central America, and providing mosquito nets in Africa. She moved quietly but powerfully across the globe. She once brought her family's Thanksgiving feast to a group of refugees who found themselves unexpectedly stranded on a beach in Bimini. Her generosity was a living testament to her unwavering belief in the dignity of every human being.

The stories of her kindness are too numerous to tell, each more touching than the last, and they linger in the hearts of those she left behind. Consuelo's life was defined by an unwavering faith in God, courage, kindness, and an enduring commitment to others a legacy of love that will be carried forward by her family and all those whose lives she graced.
