Margaret Griffin Obituary

Margaret A. (Gould) Griffin, 97, passed away in her sleep at her home in Windsor Locks on Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2023. Born in Leetonia, Ohio, on July 15, 1926, she was the daughter of the late John and Margaret K. Gould. Known as Peggy, she was a loving mother to her children Beth, Neil, and Keith and his wife Manuela Canales. Her love shone brightest for her granddaughters Lydia and Christina. In addition to her nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, she is survived by her special sister-in-law and longtime friend Mary Gould.

She was predeceased by her husband of 46 years, J. Philip Griffin, whom she married July 20, 1957, and their son Mark Griffin, as well as her siblings Jack, Theresa, and Ed.

Peggy was an avid golfer who played in Connecticut and Florida until she was 90. She spent many enjoyable hours with her numerous friends at Suffield Country Club, where she was bestowed an honorary membership for her many years of service to the club. She was a voracious reader of two daily newspapers and numerous magazines, who always had a novel or two open by her recliner. Her many clippings with our names written in her elegant script will be missed. In addition, Peggy loved the game of bridge and travel and enjoyed her weekly car rides with Beth and Neil in her later years. When her children were younger, she also actively volunteered for the religious education program at St. Mary Church in Windsor Locks, where she was a parishioner for decades. A Christian funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 7, 2023, at Saint Mary Church, 42 Spring St., Windsor Locks. Please meet at the church.
