Dorothea Woerns Obituary

Woerns (Weber), Dorothea Elfriede
10/9/1923 - 8/24/2024
Dorothea (Thea) Woerns passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family Saturday, August 24, 2024. Devoted wife and mother, she was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Karl, on August 24, 1989, brothers Freidel and Karl-Ludwig(Dorothy) Weber, mother Elisabeth, and father Wilhelm Weber. She is survived by her children, Rolf Woerns (Bev Jarvis), Norbert Woerns, Carmen (George) Ejsmont; grandchildren Jeremy (Jill) Ejsmont, Christina Woerns (Tom Chorley), Nicola Woerns (Jeff Harris), Angela Ejsmont, Katrina (Colin) Durkin, and Andrew (Moira) Ejsmont; and great-grandchildren Jarrod Ejsmont, Jersey Ejsmont, Bryce Marvin, Keagan Martin-Woerns, Declan Durkin-Woerns, and Maeve Durkin-Woerns, sister-in law, Hannelore Weber(Germany). Oma, as she was known, took great pride in her German heritage and spoke fondly of her home and growing up in Germany. With her husband Karl and two small children, Thea immigrated to Canada in 1953. In 1964, she immigrated again from Stratford, Ontario, to Grand Rapids, Michigan. Thea worked tirelessly to make sure others were taken care of, always putting others needs above her own. Thea was active and engaged in the world around her every day of her life. She loved her garden and home and took great pride in keeping them both well organized and tidy. Thea was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church where she participated in the Stephen's Ministry, visiting elderly friends in their homes or retirement homes and Silver Saints, sending birthday cards and participating in many fun events. Thea was also a long time member of the Standale Garden Club.
During the past couple of years she was looked after by her loving daughter, Carmen, taking care of her every need. Most recently she came under the care of a devoted nurse and friend, Sue Smits and the tender and compassionate care of Emmanuel Hospice. Thea had many special friends including, Erica and Jim Coon, Tom Smits, Becky Troeger and Ivan (Woody) Woodward. Her memory lives on with her family and those who were fortunate enough to have been a part of her life. A Funeral Service will be held Thursday August 29,2024 at 11:00 am at Zion Lutheran Church where her family will receive visitors one hour prior at church. Thea will be laid to rest next to Karl during a family graveside service at Rosedale Cemetery. Thea's family would like to extend a special thank you to Pastor Julie Schneider-Thomas, Sue Smits, Brian and Jeanne Herrman and many wonderful people from Emmanuel Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in Thea's memory to Emmanuel Hospice.

Dorothea would make the most wonderful cold cut plates. It was in their home where I stayed briefly that I got a love for sausages and cheese. She had lots of political opinions and would speak on any current issue boldly. She was a woman of great passion and zeal always keeping on top of current events. I can still picture her in the living room discussing her thoughts about any number of different events. She was a great woman. Rest in peace, dear. See you on the other side.
