Stanley Anthony Wojcik
Edwardsville - Stanley Anthony Wojcik, 86, of Edwardsville, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 9, 2024, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, Illinois. Born on April 13, 1938, in Madison, Illinois, he was the cherished son of the late Stanley and Catherine (Riddle) Wojcik. Stanley shared a beautiful marriage with Toni (Becker) Barr-Wojcik, whom he married on March 20, 1999, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Edwardsville, Illinois.
A passionate educator, Stanley earned his master's degree from Murray State University and dedicated 32 years to teaching history and social studies at Granite City High School. His love for football led him to a distinguished coaching career at Granite City High School, East St. Louis Assumption High School, East St. Louis Lincoln, and Edwardsville High School. His remarkable contributions to the sport were recognized with inductions into the Illinois High School Coaches Association Hall of Fame, the St. Louis Metro Coaches Association Hall of Fame, and the Missouri Valley College Athletic Hall of Fame. He was also honored as the AFLAC National Assistant Coach of the Year. He was a devoted member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Edwardsville. Stanley was an active member of the Granite City Elks Lodge #1063. Above all, he was a loving husband and father, and a doting grandfather. His legacy of dedication and leadership will forever be remembered by those who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley and Catherine (Riddle) Wojcik; and his sister, Sandra Measki.
Surviving to cherish his memory are his wife, Toni (Becker) Barr-Wojcik, of Edwardsville, Illinois; his son, Jay Wojick, of Euharlee, Georgia; his stepchildren, Darin Barr, of Tacoma, Washington and Shelly (Darren) Spangler, of Carthage, Illinois; his brother-in-law, John Measki, of Granite City, Illinois; his nieces, Susan (Tim) McPherson, of Edwardsville, Illinois and Christine Measki, of Granite City, Illinois; his grandchildren, Julianne Wojcik, Adeline Wojcik, Amanda Spangler, Avery Spangler, and Daniel Barr; and many other relatives and friends.
Memorials are appreciated to the St. Boniface Angel Fund or the Hospice of Southern Illinois. Condolences may also be expressed online at www.irwinchapel.com.
Visitation: Family and friends may gather from 9 to 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 17, 2024, at Irwin Chapel, 591 Glen Crossing Rd., Glen Carbon, Illinois.
Funeral: Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 17, 2024, at Irwin Chapel, Glen Carbon, Illinois. Interment will follow in Sunset Hill Memorial Estates, Glen Carbon, Illinois.
