Alma Boyer Obituary

Alma May (Martz) Boyer, 86, of Walkersville, died on Friday, May 31, 2024 at Citizens Care and Rehabilitation Center of Frederick. She was the wife of the late George Richard Boyer, who preceded her in death in 1977.

Born October 4, 1937 in Yellow Springs, MD, Alma was the daughter of the late Lewis J. and H. Genevieve (Shook) Martz.

Alma was a graduate of Frederick High School, class of 1955. Following graduation, she attended business school in Baltimore and then worked as a secretary at the East Coast Relay Station. As a wife and stay-at-home mom, she was a member of the Lewistown Homemakers Club. Upon the death of her husband, she returned to work outside the home. While her kids were young, she was employed by Frederick County Public Schools at the Walkersville Middle School library. Later, she worked at Maryland National Bank and Farmers and Mechanics National Bank. After retirement, Alma enjoyed working at the Great Frederick Fair in the household building. Alma enjoyed traveling. In addition to traveling within the continental United States, she visited Hawaii, Grand Cayman, Italy, British Columbia, Alaska, Nova Scotia, Iceland, Germany, France, and Budapest. She was a member of the Glade Valley Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses, a master gardener and a strong support to her family. The family will always remember trips to Hershey Park with "Nana" and delicious picnics and family dinners. Alma was pleased to see all her grandkids graduate college and prepared for a bright future.

Alma is survived by her children, daughter, Elizabeth "Betsy" Dutrow, son-in-law, Lewis, and granddaughter, Ava; son, Michael R. Boyer, daughter-in-law, Christine "Chris", granddaughter, Lillian "Lilly", and grandson, George R.; and daughter, Rachael M. Hayre, son-in-law, Steven and grandsons, S. Daniel "Danny", and Alfred "A.J.". Her brother, Kenneth "Gene" Martz, also survives, along with many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday June 4th 2024 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 40 Fulton Avenue in Walkersville.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, June 5, 2024 at the funeral home in Walkersville. Burial will be held at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Frederick.

I send my deepest sympathy to the family of Alma. I was a Yellow Springs kid who grew up with Alma and Gene. Alma was one year ahead of me at FHS. We rode the same yellow school bus to elementary, junior high, and high school. I do remember her and the picture online really shows she hadn't changed. Her dad and I worked the YS election polls for a few years together. I truly liked him. God bless the children and grandchildren.
