Robert Barreth Obituary

Robert W. Barreth, 79, Union, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2024, at his home.

Robert was born July 7, 1945, in Washington, Missouri, to Robert and Viola (nee Borgmann) Barreth. He grew up in Union, and he graduated from Union High School in 1964. He continued his education at Sanford Brown Business College. Robert was united in marriage to Suzanne Johannaber on June 10, 1967, at Zion United Church of Christ in Union. The couple made their home in Union, and their marriage was blessed with two children.

Robert enjoyed a successful career as a manager with the family's business, Barreth Oil Company. Later in life, he worked at Camp Mo-Val and at Wal-Mart in Union. He retired in 2002.

Robert enjoyed being an active member of the community throughout his life. Earlier in life, he was a Boy Scout. He was also a charter member of the Union Optimist Club. Robert was an active member of Zion United Church of Christ in Union for many years where he served on the church council and taught Sunday school. When he wasn't working or volunteering in the community, Robert enjoyed doing yard work and was a car enthusiast.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Viola Barreth, and his parents-in-law, Harlan and Lorraine (nee Otterman) Johannaber.

He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Suzanne Barreth, of Union; one son, Brian Barreth, of Union; one daughter, Mindy Johnson, of Cincinnati, Ohio; four grandchildren: Andrew Johnson, Gabriel Toms, Colton Johnson, and Trent Johnson; great-grandchild, Lia Grace Johnson; one brother, Ray Barreth and wife Elena, of Nairobi, Kenya; two sisters-in-law: Judy Hough and husband Gus, of Florida, and Pat Kelly and husband Kevin, of Dardenne Prairie; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many dear friends.

A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, at Oltmann Funeral Home, Union.

Burial followed in Zion United Church of Christ Cemetery, Union.

Memorial donations may be made to ASPCA.

The Barreth family was served by Oltmann Funeral Home, Union.
