Dorothy Mazyck Howard departed this life to be with the Lord on Monday, September 30, 2024, at Roper Berkeley Hospital, Summerville, South Carolina. She was born October 4, 1931, to late John Mazyck and the Florence Pinckney Mazyck in St. Stephen, South Carolina.
Dorothy accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and joined St. Michael Reformed Episcopal Church. Later, she was baptized as a member of Holy Rock Missionary Baptist Church in St. Stephen.
She was a loyal member at Holy Rock Missionary Baptist Church. She served faithfully as a doorkeeper on the Usher Ministry and the church kitchen hospitality committee.
She received her early education from the Berkeley County School District.
She was known for her cooking, and her specialties were red rice, jelly cakes, holidays fruits cakes, and cubed steak with gravy. Her hands were blessed at growing vegetables, and she was known all over the south and north for her okra, peas, butter beans, and collard greens. Dot was famous for her biscuit making skills and had trophies to prove it… winning Hardee’s State Biscuit Making contest!
She was charter member of the Zeta Amicae Auxiliary of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., Kappa Alpha Zeta Chapter, Moncks Corner, SC for over 30 years. Dorothy served devotedly until her health declined, yet she was happy to attend events when she could. During her time as a Zeta Amicae, she served as President, Vice President and Parliamentarian.
She was joined in Holy Matrimony on April 29, 1949, to Willie J. Howard. To this union four children were born. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Howard; two sons, Curtis Howard and Johnny Lee Howard; sisters Mildred Mazyck, Elizabeth Mazyck Myers and Thirlestine Mazyck Scott; and brother, John Elijah Mazyck, Jr.
She leaves to mourn in her passing: her sons, Eugene Howard and Christopher Howard (Sherry); daughter, Clarissa {Chrissy} Mitchell (Anthony); sister, Lucretia Mazyck Howard; brothers Alphonza Mazyck and James Allen Mazyck (Sheila); faithful daughters-in-law, Mary Howard (Curtis) and Geraldine Scott; nine grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Eliza Giwa; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A viewing will be held on Friday, October 4, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Holy Rock Missionary Baptist Church, 1084 Imperial Drive, St. Stephen, SC. Her Home Going Service will be held on Saturday, October 5, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., at Holy Rock Missionary Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Peru Cemetery. Masks are required for the viewing and service.
The family is receiving friends at 308 Howard Hill Lane, St. Stephen, SC.
We kindly ask that you keep the family in your thoughts and prayers during this time of bereavement.

Condolences to the Family! I worked with Mrs. Dot at Hardees in St Stephen. She was a joy and pleasure to work with for sure. With her, Trish and Gail in the back and BJ and I in the front we would bring customers in and push them out faster than the pit crew changing tires for Dale Earnhart. She will be missed by her work family!
