Johnnie Vance Hill, 84, passed away suddenly at his home on Tuesday, May 28, 2024. He was a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County.
Johnnie was born on March 20, 1940, in Haywood County, North Carolina. He was a member of Springhill Baptist Church. Johnnie retired from Dayco following 32 years of dedicated service. Throughout his life, his proudest accomplishment were marrying the love of his life, Mary, and unwavering love for his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Carrie Wood Hill, as well as several brothers and sisters. Johnnie is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Mary Williams Hill; his two daughters, Mistie Haney (Paul) of Clyde and Sandra Gibson (Ricky) of Canton; his son, Danny Hefner (Lisa) of Waynesville; his sister Louann Evans (Charlie) of Waynesville; eight grandchildren: Chrystal Cordell, Heather Hefner (Zac), Justin Gibson (Kayle), Jessica Florvilus (Mikkei), Makayla Thomas, Lauren Sutton (Dylan), Kris Haney (Mahaila), and Bethanie Haney; as well as 16 great-grandchildren: Kadence, Jaxon, Brielle, Dakota, Samual, Camden, Lukas, Alek, Haven, Hazel, Morallis, Carter, Shepherd, Elijah, Nathaniel, and Cierra.
A Funeral Service to honor Johnnie's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 2, 2024 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Matt Rhea officiating. Burial will follow at Upper Crabtree Cemetery. The family will receive friend from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m at the funeral home.
Serving as pallbearers will be: Paul Haney, Ricky Gibson, Justin Gibson, Dylan Sutton, Aaron Rogers, and Bruce Medford. Honorary pallbearers are Charlie Evans, Dakota Cordell and Camden Cordell.
Johnnie will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. May he rest in peace.
