Shirley Call Knofla
Shirley Call Knofla, a kind and loving soul, passed away at home on September 11, 2024, at the age of 96.
She was the daughter of the late Burr and Agnes Call. Shirley was born on September 26, 1927, in Lake Pleasant, NY. Shirley grew up in the Adirondack Mountains where she learned to fish, hunt, swim and explore. Shirley made many friends there that lasted her lifetime. Shirley stood out with her infectious smile and blond hair usually worn in pigtails.
Shirley married Alan N. Knofla on June 9, 1951. During their 71 years of marriage, Shirley and Alan lovingly raised three boys, Dale, David and Neal.
Shirley leaves a legacy of devotion, service and genuine love. The most important thing to Shirley was love for her family. She also loved spending time with many friends and relatives and was always quick to offer a cup of hot coffee. She loved a good game of pitch. Shirley graduated from the Union University School of Nursing in NY. Shirley held many positions including Head Nurse, Private Duty Nurse, Instructor of Student Nurses and Medical-Surgical Staff Nurse. Shirley was a proud member of the DAR, Daughters of the American Revolution. She helped many DAR members explore their heritage.
Shirley was predeceased by her sons, Dale Knofla and David Knofla who were twins. She is also predeceased by her husband, Alan Knofla.
Shirley is survived by her eldest son, Neal Knofla and wife, Judy Gale Knofla.
Our sincere appreciation and gratitude go out to Ama and Amy for the loving care they provided to Shirley, as well as the caregivers from Right At Home in Tolland. Also, appreciation to Dr. Oris and the ECHN Staff.
